Powerlines 4WD Event Recap: Over 50 Vehicles, BYD's Off-Road Performance & Filming with 4WD TV

Powerlines 4WD Event Recap: Over 50 Vehicles, BYD's Off-Road Performance & Filming with 4WD TV

Last Friday was a great day at Powerlines — over 50 vehicles from the local 4WD community turned up to test their rigs and enjoy some off-road action. I took our BYD along, and honestly, it impressed plenty of people by handling the tracks without any issues.

Alongside me, five other drivers — including Justin and Liam — were out there in their own vehicles, tackling everything from easy cruising lines to some seriously challenging terrain.

The only real hiccup was a Prado 150 that popped a tyre off the bead. Thankfully, it was a quick fix, and everyone was back out on the tracks in no time. That’s just part of the adventure!

Then over the weekend, those five drivers headed down south to meet up with Simon Christie from 4WD TV. Their goal was to push their rigs hard while filming some genuine off-road content.

The trails down south were a good mix — rocky climbs, tight spots, and the classic Western Australian bush. It wasn’t easy, but that’s exactly what made it worthwhile. Trips like this remind you how important it is to have reliable gear.

We were glad to have packed some essentials — and honestly, there were a few things we wished we’d brought too:

We were really glad to have some essentials packed, like the ARB Portable Air Compressor to adjust tyre pressures on the fly between different tracks. And recovery gear like the Recovery Kit was on hand just in case — because better safe than sorry.

When the sun went down, the Hella I-View Rechargeable LED Head Lamp with Sensor was a lifesaver — hands-free light that automatically adjusts so you can keep working or setting up camp without fumbling around in the dark.

Also, having a Dual Battery System kept all our gear powered up overnight without draining the starter battery — super important when you’re out in the bush for a couple of days.

If you’re gearing up for your next trip, we stock all these essentials online and in-store — helping you get ready for whatever the trail throws at you.

All in all, it was an awesome weekend — great tracks, good company, and a solid chance to put the gear through its paces.

Looking forward to the next one already!
