4WD Intercoolers & Transmission Coolers in Perth

The factory top-mount intercooler on the 4JJ3 sits behind the bonnet scoop with restricted airflow — inlet air temps climb 20–30°C above ambient under towing load or long climbs, and the ECU pulls timing and boost to protect the engine. A front-mount drops IATs back to within 5–8°C of ambient, which restores power and lengthens engine life.

The HPD FMIC is a full bar-and-plate core with cast alloy end tanks, sized to fit behind the factory bumper with minor bar-support trim. No cutting of the crash bar, no ECU re-tune required. Pipe kit uses silicone couplers and T-bolt clamps rated to 45 psi. We've fitted these on standard trucks and Steinbauer / DPChip'd trucks with equal gains.

The Aisin AWR6B45 6-speed auto behind the 4JJ3 runs hot when you tow above 2500 kg — the factory cooler is undersized for Australian conditions. The HPD external trans cooler mounts in front of the condenser with its own thermostat, and drops trans temp 20–30°C under load. If you're towing a van, this is the one upgrade that lengthens gearbox life more than anything else.

We've pulled apart no-name FMICs that came in on customer trucks — thin fins, no bar-and-plate core, cast end tanks that split under pressure, pipe kits with hose clamps rated for garden irrigation. The HPD gear is TIG-welded, pressure-tested, and comes with a real warranty we can honour from Perth.
