Australia uses five common trailer plug standards. 7-pin flat is the most common on small trailers and box trailers. 7-pin small round is the caravan and horse-float standard. 7-pin large round is heavy-duty commercial and truck-body. 12-pin flat carries reverse light, aux 12V and electric brake pin-out (standard on modern caravans). 4-pin flat is small utility trailers with lights only. If in doubt, count the pins on the tow-vehicle socket.

The Baxters 7-pin small round plug and Utilux metal socket are the caravan and horse-float default. The metal socket has better weather sealing and stands up to salt-water launches on boat trailers. We stock straight and angled mounting brackets so the plug hangs clear of the tow ball.

The Baxters 12-pin flat plug and Britax 12-pin flat socket are what any newer caravan with electric brakes, reverse camera, aux 12V and fridge feed runs on. The extra 5 pins over the 7-pin flat carry the brake controller signal, reversing light, battery positive, battery negative and auxiliary — one plug does everything.

We stock KT Cables adaptors both ways — 7-pin small round socket to 7-pin flat plug (so a caravan-wired car can tow a flat-plug box trailer), and 7-pin flat socket to 7-pin small round plug (the opposite). Cheaper than rewiring the trailer for a one-off tow. For utility trailers, the Gator GTK1 4-pin Prolink connection kit covers the small end.
