WHY A BOX AND NOT A BARE BATTERY

A loose battery in a ute tray is a fire and injury risk — terminals can short across a spanner or a jack handle, and a spilled AGM in a canopy is a bad day. A proper battery box gives you insulated terminals, an Anderson plug or cigarette outlet, a voltmeter, and usually room for the fuse and [isolator](/collections/isolators) too. Legal, safe and much more useful.

MATCH THE BOX TO THE BATTERY

A box is only as good as the battery inside it. Match the box's internal dimensions to a Group 24, Group 27 or Group 31 AGM, or spec a lithium-compatible box for a 100 Ah or 200 Ah LiFePO4. Overloading a lightweight plastic box with a 30 kg AGM in a bouncing ute tray is asking for trouble — pick the right box for the battery you're actually running.

The Noco HM327BK snap-top is our budget go-to — tough plastic, tie-down slots, fits a Group 27. The Elevate Power Station is our built-in-house all-in-one — battery, MPPT, DC-DC, Anderson plug, USB, voltmeter, ready to bolt in. Our lithium single and dual compartments are made for canopy and drawer builds where the battery lives permanently on the vehicle.

WIRING THE BOX PROPERLY

A battery box needs a properly-sized fuse close to the battery terminal, cable rated for the current, and Anderson connectors sized for the load. A 100 Ah lithium with a 2000W inverter needs 50mm² cable and a 300A fuse — not the 6mm² and 30A that came pre-wired on a cheap unit. Yes, that's what most people use them for. A 100Ah AGM will run a 40L fridge for roughly a day and a half; a 100Ah lithium will do closer to three days before needing a charge.
Yes. A loose battery box becomes a projectile in a rollover. Bolt it to the tray, canopy or drawer with the mounting points provided, or use ratchet straps to solid tie-down points.
