Trailer Breakaway Systems in Perth

Ark's Engager Complete Trailer Break-Away Kit — the ADR-compliant system that applies the trailer brakes if the coupling separates from the tow vehicle. One kit here does the whole job: sealed battery, breakaway switch, monitor and integrated charger that keeps the battery topped up from the tug.

WHAT A BREAK-AWAY SYSTEM DOES

If a caravan or trailer over 2000kg ATM separates from the tow vehicle, ADR 38 requires that the trailer's own brakes apply automatically and stay on for at least 15 minutes. A break-away system does exactly that — a lanyard pulls a pin, the switch closes, and the trailer's on-board battery drives the electric brakes hard until it flat-lines. No system, no legal tow.

THE ARK ENGAGER — WHAT'S IN THE KIT

The Complete Trailer Break-Away System Kit from Ark ships as one boxed unit: sealed 12V battery sized to hold the brakes for the required duration, break-away switch on a lanyard, in-cab monitor so you can see the battery is charged before you leave, and an on-board charger that tops the battery up off the tow-vehicle's Anderson feed. No hunting for parts to make it comply.

WHEN YOU NEED ONE

Any trailer over 2000kg ATM in Australia needs a break-away system fitted and functional. Practically every full-size caravan, most camper trailers loaded for touring, and heavy plant trailers are in that bracket. If you're not sure your rig's ATM figure, check the compliance plate on the drawbar — or bring the paperwork in and we'll tell you.

TEST IT BEFORE EVERY BIG TRIP

The Engager's monitor tells you the battery is charged — test it anyway. Chock the wheels, pull the break-away pin, and confirm the brakes lock. Replace the battery on the interval Ark specifies, not when it starts failing. A system that hasn't been touched in three years won't help you the day it's actually needed.

FITTED AT OUR PERTH WORKSHOP

The Engager needs a mounting spot on the drawbar, a proper feed from the tow vehicle's Anderson plug, and the switch cable routed so the lanyard actually pulls before the electrical plugs do. We fit them at 1/6 Radius Loop, Bayswater alongside your brake controller (see /collections/brake-controllers) and 7-pin plug — one visit, one tested set-up.

FAQS

Trailer Breakaway Systems in Perth

Common questions about trailer breakaway systems australia, answered by our Perth auto electricians.

Yes — ADR requires a breakaway system on any braked trailer with an ATM (aggregate trailer mass) over 2000kg in Australia. That covers most caravans, larger camper trailers and heavier utility trailers. Under 2000kg it's not legally required but often still fitted for peace of mind on remote runs.
The complete kit: sealed battery, breakaway switch and pin, tether cable, mounting hardware and instructions. Everything to install a compliant breakaway on a braked trailer — no separate battery or wiring parts to source.
The Ark Engager battery should be tested before every long tow and typically replaced every 3–5 years, sooner if the trailer sits unused for long periods. Most systems have a test button on the switch — a good habit before hitching up for any big trip.
Yes. We install Ark Engager systems on caravans and trailers at Bayswater daily. Bring the trailer down and we'll fit, test and hand it back with everything wired to the tow vehicle's brake controller in the same visit.
Yes. Choose pickup at checkout and we'll call when your order is ready (usually 1–3 days). Please wait for our confirmation before driving down; we don't stock every SKU on the shelf. Address: 1/6 Radius Loop, Bayswater WA 6053. Open Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm.
Domestic delivery within Australia is typically 2–8 business days depending on carrier and destination. International orders vary 2–30+ business days by country. We don't ship to PO boxes as most couriers don't deliver to them.
