Important note

The Victron Battery Protect automatically disconnects the battery from non-essential loads before it is completely discharged or before it has insufficient power to crank the engine, protecting battery health. It is a uni-directional device designed to control current flow either to a load or from a charger but not both simultaneously. The Battery terminal connects to the battery in load applications or the charger in charging applications.

The Victron Battery Protect safely disconnects non-essential loads to prevent deep battery discharge and ensure enough power remains to start your engine. It controls current flow in one direction—either to a load or from a charger—protecting your battery from damage and extending its lifespan.

  • 12/24V Auto Range - The BatteryProtect automatically detects system voltage
  • Programming made easy - The BatteryProtect can be set to engage/disengage at several different voltages. The seven segments display will indicate which setting has been chosen
  • Special Setting for Li-ion batteries - IN this mode the BatteryProtect can be controlled y the VE.Bus BMS.
  • *The BatteryProtect can also be used as a charge interrupter in between a battery charger and a LI-ion battery. See connection diagram in the manual
  • Ultra Low current consumption - this is important in case of Li-ion batteries, especially after low voltage shutdown. Please see our Li-ion battery datasheet and the VE.Bus BMS manual for more information
  • Over voltage protection - to prevent damage to sensitive loads due to over voltage, the load is disconnected whenever the DC voltage exceeds 16V respectively 32V
  • Ignition Proof - No relays but MOSFET switches, and therefore no spark
  • Delayed Alarm Output - The alarm output is activated if the battery voltage drops below the preset disconnect level during more than 12 seconds. Starting the engine will therefore not activate the alarm. The alarm output is a short circuit proof open collector output to the negative (minus) rail, max. current 50mA. The alarm output is typically used to activate a buzzer, LED or relay.
  • Delayed Load disconnect and delayed reconnect - The load will be disconnected 90seconds after the alarm has been activated. If the battery voltage increases again to the connect threshold within this time period (after the engine has been started for example) the load will not be disconnected. The load will be reconnected 30 seconds after the battery voltage has increased to more than the preset reconnect voltage.

Q: What does the BatteryProtect do?

A: It disconnects the battery from non-essential loads before the battery is fully discharged. This protects the battery from damage and ensures there’s enough power left to start the engine.

Q: Can the BatteryProtect handle current flowing both ways?

A: No. It is uni-directional, meaning it only handles current flowing in one direction—either from the battery to a load or from a charger to the battery, but not both at the same time.

Q: What voltage systems does it support?

A: It automatically detects and works with both 12V and 24V systems.

Q: Can I use it with lithium-ion batteries?

A: Yes. It has a special Li-ion mode controlled by the VE.Bus BMS and can act as a charge interrupter between a charger and a lithium-ion battery.

Q: Does it consume much power when turned off?

A: No. It has ultra-low current consumption, which helps prevent draining lithium-ion batteries when the system is off.

Q: What protections does the BatteryProtect offer?

A: It prevents over-voltage by disconnecting loads if voltage exceeds 16V (for 12V systems) or 32V (for 24V systems). It is ignition-proof with MOSFET switches, so there are no sparks.

Q: How do the alarm and disconnect features work?

A: If the battery voltage drops below the preset disconnect level for more than 12 seconds, the alarm output activates (for example, a buzzer or LED). The load disconnects 90 seconds after the alarm triggers—but if the voltage rises again (like when the engine starts), it won’t disconnect. The load reconnects 30 seconds after the voltage is above the reconnect threshold.
