This kit suits the Isuzu D-MAX fitted with the 4JJ3-TCX diesel engine, because the supplied wiring harness is cut for that engine bay. The alternator itself suits both the 4JJ1 and the 4JJ3-TCX. If you have the 4JJ1, we build the same kit with a 4JJ1 harness - see the Isuzu D-MAX 4JJ1 240A Upgraded Alternator Kit.

250A FUSED HARNESS INCLUDED

Cable sized to carry the full output, so it reaches the battery instead of heating up undersized factory wire

BOLTS INTO THE FACTORY LOCATION

161mm mount spacing, 55mm leg ID and a 17mm shaft, all matching the original, so no brackets or spacers

240A REPLACES 130A

Close to double the factory output, so a loaded touring system is no longer sitting at capacity.

TALKS TO THE ECU

Internal LIN regulator communicates exactly as the factory alternator does, with no ECU changes or resistor tricks

217A HOT, NOT JUST COLD

The honest working figure at 13.5V once up to temperature, rather than the cold bench rating alone

The BKS-240DMAX kit pairs a Black Series 240A alternator with an Elevate Automotive wiring harness cut specifically for the Isuzu D-MAX RG and its 4JJ3-TCX engine. The factory alternator is sized for a standard vehicle. Add a second battery, a fridge, driving lights, a compressor and a UHF and it spends most of its working life at capacity, which is when voltage starts to sag, the DC-DC charger backs off, and the auxiliary battery never quite gets to full.

This one puts out 240A cold and around 217A hot, through a 7PV fixed pulley on a 17mm shaft. It runs an internal LIN regulator, so it communicates with the vehicle the way the factory unit does rather than being an unmanaged high-output alternator dropped into a smart charging system. Mount spacing is 161mm centre to centre and the mount leg ID is 55mm, matching the factory location, so it goes in where the original came out.

The harness is the half people underestimate. Factory cabling was never sized to carry 240A, and leaving it in place is the most common reason an upgraded alternator does not deliver what it says on the box. The kit includes upgraded cable cut to suit the RG engine bay, with the lugs already labelled, plus a 250A mega fuse and holder on a stainless bracket, so the extra output actually reaches the battery rather than being lost as heat in undersized wire.

Check your engine before ordering. This kit is for the 4JJ3-TCX. If you have the earlier RC D-MAX with the 4JJ1 engine, we build the same kit for it:
Isuzu D-MAX RC 4JJ1 240A Upgraded Alternator Kit →
Identical kit and the same alternator. Only the fuse bracket and the cable lengths differ, to suit the 4JJ1 engine bay.

Worth being clear on one more point: an alternator is a charging source, not a charger. If you are running a lithium auxiliary battery you still need a DC-DC charger or a battery management system between the alternator and the lithium bank. This kit gives that charger far more to work with, but it does not replace it.

Backed by a 2 year or 25,000km manufacturer warranty.

  • 240A cold output, 217A hot at 13.5V, against a factory unit rated far lower
  • Built for the Isuzu 4JJ3-TCX platform, with the harness cut for that engine bay
  • Holds voltage under load, so accessories keep charging rather than dropping off
  • Internal LIN regulator communicates with the vehicle exactly as the original alternator does, with no ECU changes
  • OE-style fitment using the factory mounting points
  • Upgraded wiring included, sized to carry the full 240A rather than losing it as heat
  • Supports a dual battery system running fridges, canopy power, lighting, compressors and inverters together
  • 2 Years or 25,000km warranty against defects in materials or workmanship

Everything this install needs

0 of 0 in the box

An OE-style bolt in upgrade. Mount spacing, mount leg ID and shaft size all match the factory alternator, so it fits the original location without brackets or spacers.

Fit the supplied harness at the same time. Factory cabling is not sized to carry 240A, and reusing it is the most common reason an upgraded alternator does not deliver its rated output.

Disconnect the battery before starting, and make sure the B+ terminal is torqued and insulated correctly on reassembly.

The internal LIN regulator communicates with the vehicle, so no ECU changes or resistor tricks are needed.

If a lithium auxiliary battery is being charged from this alternator, a DC-DC charger or battery management system is still required between the two.

Q: Will this kit fit my D-MAX?
A: This kit is for the Isuzu D-MAX with the 4JJ3-TCX diesel engine. The alternator itself also suits the earlier 4JJ1, but the harness in this kit is cut for the 4JJ3 engine bay, so it is the kit that is engine specific rather than the alternator. If you have the 4JJ1 we build the same kit for it, with a 4JJ1 harness - look for the Isuzu D-MAX 4JJ1 240A Upgraded Alternator Kit.

Q: Will it actually put out 240 amps?
A: 240A is the cold rating. Once it is up to operating temperature it settles at around 217A. Real output at any moment depends on engine speed and how much the vehicle is asking for, which is normal for any alternator.

Q: Can I run lithium batteries with this?
A: Not directly. An alternator is a charging source, not a charger. You still need a DC-DC charger or a battery management system between the alternator and a lithium bank. This kit simply gives that charger far more headroom to work with.

Q: Do I really need the upgraded wiring?
A: Yes, and it is included. Factory cabling was never sized to carry 240A. Leaving it in place is the most common reason an upgraded alternator does not deliver what it is rated for, because the extra output is lost as heat in undersized wire.

Q: Will it upset the factory smart charging system?
A: No. It uses an internal LIN regulator, so it communicates with the vehicle the same way the original alternator does. No ECU changes are required.

Q: What warranty does it carry?
A: 2 years or 25,000km, whichever comes first, covering defects in materials or workmanship.
