35A OR 70A CHARGER

Matched to 48V banks, where lower current does the same work as a big 12V charger.

SWITCHES OVER IN UNDER 20ms

Fast enough that computers and sensitive gear ride through a mains failure. It is a UPS as well.

95 PERCENT EFFICIENT, 11W IDLE

The most efficient and lowest idle draw in the range, which matters on a system that runs all year.

GRID FEED READY FOR ESS

Built-in anti-islanding and country approvals, so it can feed back when configured for energy storage.

5 YEAR VICTRON WARRANTY

Backed by a 5 year limited warranty, with free remote monitoring through the VRM portal.

The MultiPlus-II is a combined pure sine inverter and battery charger with two AC outputs, built for professional marine and land-based off-grid work as well as grid-connected energy storage. The 48V models are the choice for larger fixed installations and home energy storage, where the higher system voltage keeps current and cable sizes down and delivers the best efficiency in the range.

The 3kVA model is the 48/3000/35-32, delivering 3000VA or 2400W continuous at 25°C with a 5500W peak and a 35A charger. The 5kVA model is the 48/5000/70-50, delivering 5000VA or 4000W continuous with a 9000W peak and a 70A charger. At 48V these run at up to 95 percent efficiency with the lowest idle draw in the range, down to 11W on the 3kVA.

Worth knowing before you size a system: continuous output derates with heat. The 3kVA drops to 2200W at 40°C and 1700W at 65°C, and the 5kVA to 3700W and 3000W. In a hot cabinet or enclosed space, design around the 40°C figure rather than the headline one.

Two features do most of the work in practice. PowerAssist lets the unit fill the gap when a generator or grid supply cannot meet a peak, drawing the shortfall from the battery and then recharging it once the load drops. PowerControl works the other way, capping the current drawn from that supply so you never trip the source.

The transfer switch changes over in under 20 milliseconds, fast enough that computers and sensitive electronics do not notice, so it doubles as a UPS. There are two AC outputs: the main one is uninterrupted, while the second is live only when AC input is present, which is where loads that must not flatten the battery should go.

Built-in anti-islanding and a long list of country approvals make these the models used in energy storage systems, where they can feed back into the grid when configured for ESS. Systems scale by paralleling up to six units or configuring three for three phase, with remote monitoring through the free VRM portal via a GX device.

  • Pure sine wave inverter, 5500 W peak on the 3kVA and 9000 W on the 5kVA
  • 35 A charger on the 3kVA, 70 A on the 5kVA, suiting both lead acid and lithium
  • Highest efficiency in the range at up to 95 percent, with idle draw as low as 11 W
  • PowerAssist covers a shortfall from a generator or grid supply using the battery, then recharges it when the load drops
  • PowerControl caps the current drawn from the supply so you never trip the source
  • Transfer switch changes over in under 20 milliseconds, so it doubles as a UPS
  • Two AC outputs, the second live only when AC input is present
  • Built-in anti-islanding with country approvals for energy storage systems
  • Parallel up to 6 units, or configure three units for three phase

Everything this install needs

0 of 0 in the box
  • Wall mounted, steel enclosure rated IP22. It is not weatherproof, so it must be mounted inside a protected space.
  • Cooling is fan assisted, so allow clear airflow. Continuous output derates with heat - design around 2200 W at 40 degrees C on the 3kVA, or 3700 W on the 5kVA.
  • A battery temperature sensor is not included with 48V models. Order ASS000001000 separately if you want temperature compensated charging.
  • Battery connection is by M8 bolts on the 3kVA and four M8 bolts on the 5kVA.
  • AC connection is by screw terminals accepting up to 13 mm2, which is 6 AWG.
  • The second AC output is live only when AC input is present. Put loads that must not flatten the battery on that output.
  • Configuration is through VEConfigure, which needs a computer and an MK3-USB interface. A Cerbo GX or similar adds remote monitoring through the VRM portal.
  • All 230V work must be carried out by a licensed electrician and comply with the relevant standards. Grid connected energy storage installs have additional requirements.
Suited to home and commercial energy storage, large off grid installations and marine systems. At 48V these run at the highest efficiency and lowest idle draw in the range, and keep current and cable sizes down on big systems.

Q: Should I choose the 3kVA or the 5kVA?
A: The 3kVA gives 2400 W continuous with a 5500 W peak and a 35 A charger. The 5kVA gives 4000 W continuous with a 9000 W peak and a 70 A charger. Size on the continuous figure your loads actually need, then check the peak covers your largest motor start.

Q: Why 48V rather than 12V or 24V?
A: 48V is the choice for larger fixed systems and home energy storage. The higher system voltage means lower current for the same output, so cables are smaller and losses lower, and these models are the most efficient in the range at up to 95 percent with idle draw as low as 11 W.

Q: Can it feed back into the grid?
A: Yes, when configured as part of an Energy Storage System. It has built-in anti-islanding and holds country approvals for ESS use. Grid connected installs have additional requirements, so the work must be done by a licensed electrician.

Q: Is a battery temperature sensor included?
A: Not on 48V models. It is included with the 12V and 24V versions but on 48V it is ordered separately as ASS000001000.

Q: Does the output derate?
A: Yes. The 3kVA drops from 2400 W at 25 degrees C to 2200 W at 40 and 1700 W at 65. The 5kVA drops from 4000 W to 3700 W and 3000 W. In a hot or enclosed space design around the 40 degrees C figure.

Q: What does PowerAssist actually do?
A: It lets a small supply run bigger loads than it should. If a generator or grid supply cannot meet a peak, the MultiPlus-II makes up the shortfall from the battery, then recharges the battery once the load drops. PowerControl caps what is drawn from that supply so you never trip it.

Q: Can I use it as a UPS?
A: Yes. The transfer switch changes over in under 20 milliseconds, quick enough that computers and sensitive electronics keep running through a mains failure.

Q: Can I add more capacity later?
A: Yes. Up to six units can run in parallel, and three of the same model can be configured for three phase output.
