Cigarette-lighter style accessory plug rated to 10 A on a 12 V circuit. The chrome tip unscrews so the internal glass fuse can be replaced without cutting the lead, and a rubber seal on the collar keeps dust and moisture out of the barrel.

Lock-in points on the collar grip the socket, so the plug stays put over corrugations instead of falling out mid-drive. Powers a GPS, phone charger, air compressor lead, work light or any other 12 V accessory that needs a solder-free connection to the vehicle.

Wire ends terminate under screw terminals inside the barrel, so no crimping or soldering is required. Keep the total load under 120 W at 12 V (10 A ceiling) and carry a spare 10 A glass fuse in the glovebox, since the fuse is the first thing to check if the plug stops working.

  • 10A rating — carries most 12V vehicle accessories
  • Replaceable fuse — chrome tip unscrews for access
  • Rubber seal — keeps dust and moisture out of the barrel
  • Lock-in collar — stays seated over corrugations
  • Solder-free — screw terminals inside the barrel

12 V cigarette-lighter accessory plug for any vehicle, trailer or auxiliary panel with a matching 12 V accessory socket
12 V DC systems (cars, 4WDs, utes, caravans, camper trailers, boats)
24 V DC systems (supplier rates it 12 V only)
240 V AC mains work (must be done by our licensed electrician, EC17073)

Q: What is a cigarette-lighter style plug, and why do people call it that?
Cars once had a heated element that popped in and out of a 12 V socket on the dashboard to light a cigarette. That socket shape became the default for portable 12 V accessories, and even in modern vehicles that no longer supply a lighter, the socket and matching plug are still the same form factor.

Q: How many watts can this plug carry?
At 12 V and the 10 A limit, roughly 120 watts sustained. That covers a phone charger, GPS, tyre pump, torch or small work light. It will not run a large fridge, an inverter over 100 watts, or an air compressor sized for 4WD tyres. Those loads need an Anderson-style plug wired direct to the battery.

Q: Does it work on a 24 V system?
The supplier rates it 12 V only. We do not recommend running it on 24 V trucks, tractors or dual-battery setups. Ask us and we can source a 12/24 V accessory plug rated for both systems.

Q: What fuse does it take, and where does it go?
A 10 A glass cartridge fuse sits inside the chrome tip. Unscrew the tip, replace the fuse, screw the tip back on. Keep a couple of spares in the glovebox: the fuse is the first thing to check if the plug stops working.

Q: Can I wire it directly to a battery?
Yes. Feed the centre tip from the fused positive lead and the side spring contacts from the negative lead. Add an inline fuse (10 A or less) on the positive side, and keep the run to the battery under a metre or so. Any longer and voltage drop starts to matter.

Q: Will this stay in the socket on a rough track?
The collar has lock-in points that grip the socket rim, which stops the plug bouncing loose over corrugations. Regular plugs without a lock feature fall out often on rough gravel or corrugated dirt roads.

Q: Can it be used outdoors or in the rain?
The rubber seal on the collar keeps dust and splash out of the barrel when the plug is seated in the socket. It is not rated for submersion or high-pressure wash. For truly wet mounting (rear step, drawbar, exposed bulkhead) fit a proper IP-rated Anderson-style connector instead.

Q: Does the plug come with a cable or terminals attached?
No, it is the plug body only. Screw terminals inside the barrel take bare wire ends, so no soldering or crimping is needed. Feed the wires through the strain relief, screw them into the terminals, then close the barrel.

Q: How does this compare to a locking Anderson-style plug?
Cigarette-style plugs are convenient because every vehicle has a matching socket, but they top out at about 10 A. Anderson-style plugs (SB50, SB175) carry 50 A to 175 A and are the right choice for anything drawing serious current, so fridges, inverters, compressors, DC-DC chargers or trailer-to-vehicle power leads.
