A sealed 2-pin Deutsch DT-series connector kit for building a waterproof cable-to-cable join anywhere on the vehicle. Runs auxiliary lighting, sensor circuits, fridge feeds and solenoid triggers on 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V DC. Fits 4WD engine-bay looms, camper chassis wiring, trailer harnesses, boat helm signal runs and any DC circuit under 13A per contact.

Housings are DT-series thermoplastic with silicone perimeter and radial seals, rated IP68 mated and tested to 20G RMS vibration between 10 and 2000Hz. Contacts are size-16 stamped, rated 13A each at 125°C. The kit ships as a matched pair of housings, two wedgelocks and four terminals so a single order builds both ends of the join.

Crimp each terminal with a Deutsch-pattern indent crimper set to size-16; open-barrel automotive crimpers mash the barrel and the joint fails under vibration. Insert each terminal from the rear until it clicks, then push the wedge home from the front to lock. Seals only hold when the plug is fully mated and every unused cavity is plugged; a half-locked join is not IP68.

  • IP68 sealed — submerged-rated for underhood or chassis runs
  • 13A per contact — at 125C ambient, 26A total across both pins
  • 20G vibration — tested 10 to 2000Hz for engine-bay mounting
  • Wedge lock — secondary retention verifies full terminal seating
  • Size-16 terminals — stamped-formed contacts for 0.5-1.5mm2 wire
  • Serviceable — pin-extraction tool releases and reuses terminals

Q: What is a Deutsch DT connector?
DT is the most common Deutsch family of sealed automotive connectors, originally speced by heavy-truck OEMs. Two mating halves with silicone seals, a secondary wedge lock, and stamped-formed size-16 terminals give a factory-quality cable-to-cable join anywhere on the vehicle.

Q: What is the difference between DT and DTP?
DT uses size-16 contacts rated 13A per pin and takes 0.5 to 1.5mm² wire. DTP uses size-12 contacts rated 25A per pin and takes 2.5 to 4.0mm² wire. Same seal system, same wedge concept, larger cavity and beefier terminals. Pick DT for signal and low-current power, DTP for higher-current runs like driving lights.

Q: What wire size fits the terminals?
Size-16 stamped contacts accept 0.5 to 1.5mm² conductor (roughly 20 to 16 AWG). Larger wire will not fit the barrel; smaller wire will not crimp reliably.

Q: Can I use a generic open-barrel crimper?
No. Deutsch stamped contacts need a Deutsch-pattern indent crimper set to size-16, which forms a symmetrical crimp on the wire-grip section. A generic open-barrel crimper mashes the terminal and prevents it from seating in the housing.

Q: Is 13A per pin the total or per contact?
Per contact, at 125°C ambient. On a 2-pin kit with both circuits loaded, that gives 26A total across the connector, but the derating chart pulls the per-pin figure lower once ambient temperature rises or if adjacent cavities are all fully loaded.

Q: What does IP68 mean here?
Ingress Protection code 6 (dust-tight) and 8 (submerged past 1m for extended periods) per IEC 60529. In practice the connector shrugs off engine-bay steam, high-pressure wash-down and fording. Seals only work when the connector is fully mated and the wedge is home; a half-locked join is not IP68.

Q: Will this handle a winch or an inverter feed?
No. 13A per pin is nowhere near winch current (200 to 500A) or high-power inverter draw (200A plus at 12V). Use Anderson SB120, SB175 or heavy-gauge terminal lugs for those loads.

Q: Can I use it on a 24V or 48V system?
Yes for 24V, 36V and 48V DC, within the 13A per-contact limit. The DT connector body is rated well above these voltages; the current derating is the constraint, not the voltage.

Q: Are these genuine TE Deutsch or compatible?
Deutsch-pattern compatible, sourced through Australian distributors, physically interchangeable with genuine TE Connectivity DT parts.

Q: How do I release a terminal to reuse it?
Remove the coloured wedge lock from the front of the housing with a small pick, then use a Deutsch pin-extraction tool from the rear to lift the retention finger off the terminal barrel. The terminal slides out unharmed and can be recrimped if needed.
