Sealed 2-pole heavy-duty connector kit built to the Deutsch DTP standard. Rated 25A per contact at 125°C, it steps up from the DT series (13A) when a single circuit pushes more current, such as an auxiliary power lead to a compressor, a rooftop light-bar feed, or a fuse-block trunk running to a canopy hub.

The connector body is thermoplastic with silicone perimeter seals and a positive wedgelock that pins the contacts against back-out. Sealed to IP68 and IP6K9K when assembled correctly, rated for continuous operation from -55 to +125°C, and specified against 20G RMS vibration between 10 and 2000Hz.

Suits 5mm auto cable, roughly 2.9mm² conductor. Crimp with a standard automotive Deutsch DTP crimper on the size 12 pins, insert into the housing until the pin seats, then engage the orange wedgelock to finish the joint.

  • Sealed heavy duty — IP68 and IP6K9K when assembled
  • 25A per contact — high current, not signal level
  • Positive wedgelock — pins locked against back-out
  • Wide temp range — rated -55 to +125°C
  • Vibration proof — 20G RMS 10 to 2000Hz
  • Field serviceable — standard DTP crimper only

Q: What does DTP mean and how is it different from DT?
DT and DTP are two sister families in the Deutsch connector range. DT contacts are rated to 13A each and sized for signal and mid-current wiring. DTP steps the physical contact size up so each contact takes 25A continuous. Both are sealed, both use the same style wedgelock, and the housings look similar. Choose DTP when a single circuit needs to carry more than 13A.

Q: What does IP68 sealing actually mean here?
IP68 is protection against dust ingress (the 6) and against continuous submersion in water beyond 1m (the 8). On a Deutsch connector it holds when the plug and receptacle are mated and every unused cavity is closed with a plug. Leave a cavity open and the seal is broken.

Q: Which cable size does this suit?
Size 12 solid contacts accept 5mm auto cable, roughly 2.9mm² conductor. Drop a size or two and the crimp barrel is too big for the copper. Go up and the copper won't fit into the barrel. Match the cable to the contact, or fit a smaller-barrel contact if it's stocked.

Q: Do I need a special crimper?
A Deutsch solid-contact DTP crimper is the right tool. Standard open-barrel automotive crimpers deform the pin barrel and give a poor connection. Solid-contact crimpers close the barrel evenly around the copper and hold to the connector spec.

Q: What's the difference between the pin and socket contacts?
The male housing takes pins (solid post that goes into the socket). The female housing takes sockets (a barrel the pin slides into). Both are size 12 solid, both crimp the same way, both use the same wedgelock. Fit pins into the male body and sockets into the female body, never the other way around.

Q: Is this rated for a winch?
No. A winch under load pulls 200 to 500A. This kit is rated for 25A per contact. For winch power use an SB120 or SB175 heavy-duty plug, or hardwire the winch straight to the battery on suitable cable with an in-line high-amp fuse or breaker.

Q: Can I use this on a 24V or 48V system?
Yes on both. Current rating is what matters, not voltage. 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V DC are all within the Deutsch DTP spec, provided the per-contact current stays at or below 25A.

Q: What is a wedgelock and why does it matter?
The orange plastic clip that snaps into the mating face after the pins are seated. It locks each contact into its cavity so vibration or a pull on the cable can't back the pin out. Without the wedgelock, a good crimp is undone by the first hour of corrugations.

Q: Is this a genuine TE Connectivity Deutsch part?
Honest answer: this is a Deutsch-compatible kit distributed for the Australian trade market, not a TE-branded original. It mates and locks with genuine Deutsch DTP housings and uses the same size 12 contact form. If a specific application calls for TE or Amphenol Sine originals, ask us before ordering.
