A 50A Anderson-style plug and contacts sized for 8mm² cable, for high-current DC connections between a vehicle and a trailer, a battery box and a fridge, a solar panel and a battery, or an Anderson inlet and a portable power station. Choose red or blue to mark polarity or to keep two circuits from crossing on the same rig. Fits caravan supply lines, 4WD dual-battery inlets, camper solar leads, boat trolling-motor connections and workshop test leads.

The housing is Anderson SB50-pattern high-impact polycarbonate that mates only with other SB50 housings of the same colour. Contacts are silver-plated copper stampings sized for 8mm² conductor (roughly 8 AWG). The complete plug is rated 50A continuous at up to 600V DC and works from -20°C to +105°C. Each pack ships as one housing plus two contacts, enough for one end of a cable.

Crimp each contact with an Anderson SB50 crimp tool; open-barrel automotive crimpers will not close the barrel correctly and the joint fails under load. Colour is a mechanical key: red only mates with red, blue only mates with blue, and grey only with grey. Fuse the cable feed at the source for the cable size behind the plug, not at the plug itself.

Q: What does SB50 mean?
SB stands for Small Block; 50 is the amperage rating. SB50 is Anderson's most common single-pole DC connector, standard on caravan trailer plugs, 4WD dual-battery inlets, battery boxes and portable power stations across Australia.

Q: Are the red and blue interchangeable?
Mechanically identical. Colour is a mechanical key so red only mates with red and blue only with blue. Different colours prevent accidentally cross-connecting a solar feed to a battery feed or two different circuits on the same rig.

Q: What cable size does it fit?
8mm² conductor, roughly 8 AWG. The contact barrel is sized for that gauge; smaller cable will not crimp cleanly and larger will not fit. For 6mm² cable use the 50A SB50 contacts sized to 6mm², and for 16mm² step up to SB120 or SB175.

Q: Do I need a special crimp tool?
An Anderson SB50 crimp tool is the correct tool. Open-barrel automotive crimpers do not close the SB50 contact barrel correctly and the crimp fails under high current or vibration.

Q: Is the plug 50A or is that the cable rating?
Both. The plug is rated 50A continuous. 8mm² cable is also rated around 50A depending on how it is run (single-core in free air higher, bundled or in conduit lower). Fuse at the source to the lower of the plug rating and the cable rating.

Q: What does 600V DC mean here?
The insulation rating of the housing. All common DC vehicle systems (12V, 24V, 36V, 48V) are well inside the envelope. The 50A current rating is the real-world constraint, not the voltage.

Q: How many plugs do I need per cable?
One plug per end. A cable between a battery box and a fridge needs one plug at each end, so order two of the same colour. If both ends plug into the same colour source, order two the same. If one end plugs into a red inlet and the other into a blue outlet, order one of each.

Q: Are these genuine Anderson?
Anderson-pattern SB50, sourced through Australian distributors. Physically interchangeable with genuine Anderson Power Products SB50 housings and standard SB50 contacts.
