50A ALPHA + BATTERY MANAGER

Alpha R — DC-DC + solar + full battery management system in one in-cabin unit.

REDARC APP CONTROL

Monitor charging, set the battery profile and view state-of-charge over Bluetooth.

INTEGRATED BATTERY MANAGEMENT

Shunt-based monitoring built in — no separate BMS purchase needed.

6 CHARGE PROFILES

AGM, gel, calcium, standard lead-acid, LiFePO4 and custom — covers every modern deep-cycle chemistry.

5 YEAR REDARC WARRANTY

Backed by 5 years direct from Redarc — the Alpha series carries the extended warranty. Repair or replacement in accordance with Redarc's warranty policy.

A 50A DC-DC battery manager that charges a 12V auxiliary bank from the vehicle alternator and a solar panel at the same time. Built-in MPPT pulls what the panel will give, the alternator fills whatever's left, and six charge stages tailor the finish to AGM, gel, calcium, standard lead-acid, LiFePO4 or a custom profile. Fits 4WD canopies, caravan battery boxes, campervan cabinets, boat helms and off-grid trailer builds where the auxiliary bank sees a mix of driving days and parked days.

The case is 164 by 146 by 44mm and 0.96kg, finned cast alloy with a pushbutton front panel and screw terminals that take up to 4 B&S cable without soldering. A Smart Battery Monitor shunt is in the box; wire it to the auxiliary bank and the Redarc app reads true state-of-charge over Bluetooth. Green Power Priority pulls from solar first to spare the alternator. Firmware updates arrive over the air.

Mount it in the cabin or load area, not the engine bay. Smart-alternator and stop-start vehicles need the ignition trigger wired in, and so does any build with more than one BCDC in the chain. Fuse both inputs at the source and size the battery cable for the full 50A rating.

What sets it apart

Built-in shunt — no separate monitor to buy.

Green Power Priority — solar leads, alternator fills.

Six charge profiles — covers lead-acid through LiFePO4.

Bluetooth control — Redarc app sets profile and reads SOC.

Smart-alternator ready — ignition trigger input.

Input current limiting — protects hybrid alternators.

OTA firmware updates — adds features over time.

RedVision compatible — plugs into TVMS Rogue and Prime.

Pairs with

  • 50A dual-input charging — alternator and solar together
  • Built-in Smart Shunt — reports true state-of-charge
  • Green Power Priority — pulls solar before alternator
  • Six charge profiles — lead-acid through LiFePO4
  • Bluetooth control — Redarc app over phone
  • Input current limiting — safe on hybrid alternators
  • OTA firmware updates — new features over time
  • RedVision ready — integrates TVMS Rogue and Prime

Mount the Alpha50 R in the cabin or load area, as close to the auxiliary battery as practical so the shunt lead stays short. The case is not rated for engine bay installation; keep it away from direct engine heat and vibration.

Wire the battery leads with 4 B&S cable (around 25mm²) for the full 50A rating on runs up to a few metres; step up to 2 B&S on longer runs. Fuse the alternator input with a 60A ANL or MIDI within 300mm of the start battery, and fuse the output within 300mm of the auxiliary battery. Solar input is MPPT and takes a single panel or array up to 48V, fuse it at the panel.

On any stop-start, smart-alternator or multi-BCDC build, run the ignition trigger wire so the chargers only run when the engine is running. Pair the included Smart Battery Monitor shunt with the auxiliary battery and set the chemistry profile in the Redarc app over Bluetooth before closing up the installation.

BCDC Alpha50 R Install Guide

50A DC-DC battery manager with MPPT solar input and built-in shunt
12V alternator input (9–32V DC) — cars, 4WDs, trucks, RVs, caravans, boats
Solar panel input (9–48V DC MPPT) — single panel or array
Smart-alternator and stop-start vehicles — ignition trigger wire required
Hybrid vehicles — input current limiting protects the DC converter
Engine bay mounting — not rated, use in-cabin or load area only
24V house bank output — use the Redarc BCDC2420 instead

Q: What's a DC-DC battery manager?
A unit that takes power from the vehicle's alternator (and solar if fitted) and feeds it to an auxiliary battery through a dedicated charge profile. Manager means it also measures the auxiliary battery's current draw through a shunt and reports state-of-charge, so you don't need a separate monitor like a Victron SmartShunt.

Q: What's MPPT?
Maximum Power Point Tracking. The charger sweeps the solar panel's voltage and current to find the sweet spot that gives the most watts in that moment of sun. Means more energy from the same panel than a plain solar regulator.

Q: What does the R mean?
The R stands for the integrated battery management shunt built into the Alpha50 R. The base Alpha50 is a DC-DC charger on its own; the Alpha50 R adds the shunt and state-of-charge reporting in one unit.

Q: Which chemistries does it support?
Six charge profiles: AGM, gel, calcium, standard lead-acid, LiFePO4 lithium and a custom profile set through the app. Heated lithium is covered by the LiFePO4 profile.

Q: Do I still need a separate battery monitor?
No. The Smart Battery Monitor shunt is in the box and reports true state-of-charge in the Redarc app over Bluetooth.

Q: What cable size should I use?
4 B&S (around 25mm²) is our workshop pick for the full 50A rating on runs up to a few metres. Longer runs step up to 2 B&S. Do not go smaller than 6 B&S.

Q: Where does it mount?
In-cabin or load area, close to the auxiliary battery so the shunt lead is short. The case is not rated for engine bay installation.

Q: Does my car need the ignition trigger wire?
Yes on any stop-start or smart-alternator vehicle, and yes on any build with more than one BCDC in the system (for example a charger in the vehicle plus a second one in the caravan). The trigger makes sure the chargers only run when the engine's running. Our workshop fits it as standard.

Q: Is it the same as the Alpha50 non-R?
No. The non-R is a straight DC-DC charger; the R adds the shunt and battery management in the same case. Pick the R if you want one unit for charging and monitoring.

Q: How long is the warranty?
Two years, direct from Redarc.
