Nylon cable glands seal cable entry points into enclosures, switchboards, junction boxes and equipment housings, keeping dust and water out where a cable passes through a panel wall. The compression nut clamps down around the cable sheath as it's tightened, forming a sealed, re-openable fitting rather than a one-shot grommet.

Straight-through nylon PA66 body, IP68 rated, available in Metric, PG, G(PF) and NPT thread types. Handles automotive, marine, 4WD and general industrial installations, from 12V/24V wiring enclosures to workshop switchboards.

Size guide

Pick the thread size by your cable's outer diameter, not by eye, the compression seal only works within its rated range. Too small and the cable won't feed through; too large and the nut can't compress enough to seal.

Thread Size SKU Cable Diameter Range
M12 CG12 3–6.5mm
M16 CG16 5–10mm
M20 CG20 10–14mm
M25 CG25 13–18mm

Between sizes? Measure the cable's outer diameter (not the conductor count or gauge) and pick the range it falls inside, the size above the top of a range needs the next gland up.

  • Secure cable seal — IP68 against dust and submersion
  • Multi-thread compatible — Metric, PG, G(PF) and NPT
  • Wide cable range — one size covers a range, not a single diameter
  • Re-openable lock — audible click, reposition without new parts
  • Chemical resistant — salt water, oils, greases, solvents
  • Flame retardant — UL 94V-2 rated PA66 body

Cable entry seal for equipment enclosures, switchboards, junction boxes and panels, automotive, marine, 4WD and general industrial installations.
12V and 24V DC electrical enclosures (4WD, caravan, marine, trailer)
General equipment and switchboard enclosures, mechanical seal only, doesn't carry current itself

Q: What does IP68 actually mean?
A: It's a two-part dust/water ingress rating. The first digit (6) means fully dust-tight, no dust gets in at all. The second digit (8) means protection against continuous submersion, under conditions the manufacturer sets (deeper and longer than the splash-and-rain protection of a lower rating like IP65). Practically, a correctly tightened IP68 gland keeps water and dust out of the cable entry in wet, outdoor, washdown or bilge environments.

Q: What's the difference between Metric, PG, G(PF) and NPT threads, which one do I need?
A: They're four different thread standards used on cable gland entries. Metric (M12, M16, M20, M25 etc.) is the modern, most common standard on new equipment. PG (Panzergewinde) is an older European conduit thread still common on established industrial and switchboard gear. G(PF) is BSP parallel thread, common on British- and Australian-spec enclosures. NPT is the American tapered pipe thread, common on US-made equipment. Match the thread already cut into your enclosure, the size number alone doesn't guarantee a seal if the thread standard is wrong.

Q: How do I know which gland size I need?
A: Measure your cable's outer diameter, not the conductor count or gauge, then pick the size whose range it falls inside (see the size guide table above). M12 suits 3–6.5mm cable, M16 suits 5–10mm, M20 suits 10–14mm, M25 suits 13–18mm. A cable near the top of one range often fits better one size up.

Q: How do I install a cable gland?
A: Drill or use an existing hole matching the gland's thread size, thread the gland body through the panel from outside, feed the cable through, then tighten the compression nut until snug. That compression is what creates the seal, a loose nut means no seal, and over-tightening can crush a thin cable's insulation.

Q: What is nylon PA66 and why is it used for cable glands?
A: PA66 (Polyamide 66) is a tough engineering-grade nylon known for mechanical strength, chemical resistance and stable performance across a wide temperature range. These glands are UL-approved PA66 with a UL 94V-2 flame-retardant rating, which is why nylon is the standard material for commodity cable glands rather than a cheaper unrated plastic.

Q: Can these glands be reused, or are they single-use like a grommet?
A: They're re-openable, the claw and seal design gives an audible "click" on closing and releases cleanly to reopen, so you can reposition the cable or reuse the gland on a different run without buying a new one.

Q: What's the actual difference between a cable gland and a rubber grommet?
A: A grommet is a passive ring that cushions a cable where it passes through a hole, it doesn't compress or seal against the cable. A cable gland has a threaded body and a compression nut that clamps down around the cable sheath as it's tightened, forming an active, adjustable seal rated to a specific IP rating. Use a gland wherever dust or water ingress at the cable entry actually matters.

Q: Are these rated for 12V and 24V automotive and marine systems, or only mains and industrial equipment?
A: Both. A cable gland isn't voltage-rated itself, it's a mechanical seal around whatever cable passes through it, so the same gland works across 12V and 24V automotive/marine wiring enclosures as well as general industrial and switchboard equipment, as long as the thread and cable-range match the job.

Q: What temperature range can these handle?
A: -40°C to 100°C. That covers everything from cold-climate outdoor installs through to engine bay and equipment-enclosure heat.

Q: My cable is bigger than 18mm, what do I need?
A: Our four sizes cover 3–18mm cable (M12 to M25 thread). If your cable falls outside that range, you'll need a larger gland than we currently stock.
