A sealed AGM deep cycle battery that holds 55 amp-hours at 12 volts and runs house loads for a weekend of touring. Powers a 40L fridge, LED lighting, water pump and USB charging on a dual-battery setup in a 4WD or small caravan. Fits ute canopies, boat helms, camper trailer boxes, mobility scooters and small off-grid solar banks.

Weighs 18kg and sits on a 229 by 138 by 211mm footprint with moulded carry handles. M6 threaded insert terminals accept 6mm hole lugs, laid out D polarity with positive at top-right. Sealed and valve-regulated, so it mounts upright or on its side up to 90 degrees without leaking. The ABS case rated UL94-HB resists vibration and sits safely inside enclosed cabinets and canopies.

The battery is not a cranking battery, so don't wire it as the starter on a vehicle. Pair with a DC-DC charger from the alternator rather than a direct connection, and recharge after each trip. Keep the state of charge above 50% between trips to get the full cycle life.

  • 55Ah AGM — sealed, no fluid top-ups needed
  • Multi-angle mount — upright or sideways to 90°
  • Vibration resistant — holds up on corrugations
  • M6 terminals — 6mm lugs bolt straight in
  • 550A short burst — handles brief inverter surges
  • Low self-discharge — under 3% a month at rest
  • D polarity — positive at top-right, red cap

Mounts upright or on its side up to 90°. Sealed valve-regulated construction means no venting required and no need to keep the battery level.

Use M6 threaded insert terminals. Fit 6mm hole lugs with a flat washer and spring washer, torque to 6-8Nm. Over-tightening cracks the terminal post, under-tightening causes voltage drop under load.

Pair with a DC-DC charger sized to the alternator (20A to 30A for this capacity) rather than a direct alternator connection, so the battery recharges fully without pulling down the vehicle's start battery.

Keep state of charge above 50% between trips. Deep cycle AGMs recover from occasional 100% discharge but cycle life drops sharply if left flat.

Fits 4WDs, utes with second-battery trays, caravans, camper trailers, boats, mobility scooters and off-grid solar setups. Mounts in canopy drawers, battery boxes, under seats, in dedicated battery compartments or on the floor.
Compatible with 12V DC vehicle, marine and solar systems.
Not a cranking battery — don't wire as a vehicle starter.
Not for 24V systems directly — needs two in series.

Q: What does AGM actually mean?
Deep cycle AGM is Absorbed Glass Mat. The electrolyte sits in a fibreglass separator between the lead plates instead of free liquid, so the battery is sealed, won't spill if tipped, and can mount at any angle up to 90°. AGM also handles vibration better than flooded batteries, which matters in a 4WD or boat.

Q: What's the difference between a deep cycle battery and a car battery?
A car battery is a cranking battery. It delivers a huge current burst for a few seconds to start the engine, then the alternator tops it back up. A deep cycle like this one delivers a steady lower current for hours while a fridge or lights run, then recharges when you're back at camp or on shore power.

Q: Can I use this to start my 4WD?
No. The 550A short-burst rating is enough to kick on an inverter or a brief winch pull, but not to crank a diesel engine repeatedly. Keep this as the second battery in a dual-battery setup and use a dedicated cranking battery for the engine.

Q: Can I mount it on its side or upside down?
On its side up to 90° is fine because it's sealed. Upside down is not. The central vent needs to clear any pressure build-up, and inverting puts electrolyte near the valve.

Q: What size DC-DC charger pairs with 55Ah?
A 20A to 30A DC-DC charger suits this capacity. Smaller works but takes longer; larger risks exceeding a sensible charge rate. Match the DC-DC output to the battery capacity divided by two to three hours of charge time.

Q: How long will it run a 40L fridge?
Roughly 48 hours before a recharge in warm conditions, assuming the fridge draws about 1A average with a 50% duty cycle. Add solar input and it runs indefinitely. Cold weather and overfilling the fridge both shorten runtime.

Q: What's the warranty if the battery fails?
36 months against manufacturing defects, assessed by Century. Mounting under the engine bonnet voids warranty because the heat shortens AGM life. Bring the battery back to Elevate Automotive with proof of purchase and we handle the claim.

Q: How do I know when it's time to replace it?
Capacity drops gradually as the plates sulphate. If the battery can no longer hold a full charge overnight or sags below 11.5V under normal load, it's at end of life. A clamp tester or a slow-discharge test at Elevate will confirm.

Q: What's D polarity and why does it matter?
D polarity means the positive terminal sits at top-right when the battery is facing you. Matters because the cable loom in a factory battery box is cut to a specific layout. Getting polarity wrong forces short or looped cables and risks shorting on the metal case.

Q: Can I charge it with my existing lead-acid charger?
Only if the charger has an AGM mode. Older trickle chargers set for flooded lead-acid push too high a voltage for AGM, which boils off the electrolyte and shortens life. Century's own CC1212-XLi or any modern multi-stage AGM charger is safe.
