A 12V maintenance-free starter battery that delivers 580 cold cranking amps and 120 minutes of reserve capacity for the DIN65R tray position. Fits OE slots on Audi A3 TDI, VW Golf and Polo TDI, BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class, Mazda 3 petrol, Hyundai i30 diesel, and other mid-size European and import passenger cars with a factory DIN65R tray. Mirror of sibling DIN65L MF, which suits the same tray in vehicles whose positive terminal sits on the LEFT.

The case is 277 by 175 by 175mm and weighs 15.5kg, with D polarity (positive terminal on the RIGHT when the posts face you) and STD tapered terminal posts for standard automotive clamp-on lugs. Calcium-calcium plate chemistry limits self-discharge to roughly 2% per month in storage, and the central vent plus flame arrestor contain acid vapour and spark risk during normal operation. Carry handles sit flush with the case top; a state-of-charge indicator eye on the lid gives a quick visual check without a multimeter.

Flooded calcium wet-cell construction, not AGM or EFB. Not a substitute for a factory Stop-Start AGM or EFB battery and not a dual-purpose auxiliary deep-cycle. Rate the vehicle's main fuse at the manufacturer's spec rather than at the battery; two of these in series makes a 24V 63Ah pack when matched for age and state of charge.

What sets it apart

Tested in Century's AU climatic chambers for heat, dust, and vibration cycling. Reinforced plate welds and double-insulated separators resist the sustained road vibration that cracks lower-tier plate frames. The DIN65R case matches factory tray and clamp geometry on the European and Japanese and Korean marques above, so no cradle shimming or bracket fabrication at install time.

Charging, mounting and fusing

Standard flooded calcium wet-cell charger profile: 14.4 to 14.7V bulk and 13.5 to 13.8V float at 20°C, with temperature compensation for ambient swings outside 15 to 25°C. Modern European marques from roughly 2008 onward (Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover) carry a Battery Management System that logs each battery swap, so a dealer scan tool should register the new battery after fitment to restore full charge-rate control. Mount with the OE top clamp or J-hook at 10 to 12 Nm post torque, fuse at the starter or OE loom rather than at the battery itself, and if pairing two in series for a 24V bank use the same age-and-SOC pair with a single fuse at the start of the run.

  • 580 CCA — reliable cold-start cranking
  • 120 min reserve — lights stay on if the alternator fails
  • 63Ah capacity — matches OE DIN65R draw
  • Calcium plates — about 2% self-discharge per month
  • Maintenance-free — sealed, no water top-up
  • STD tapered posts — standard clamp-on fit
  • Vibration-resistant — reinforced welds for AU roads
  • Central vent, flame arrestor — safe vapour and spark control

Before installing, note the vehicle's radio and ECU presets, then save BMS and transmission learned values if the car has a memory saver port. Disconnect the negative terminal first, then the positive. Lift the old battery clear of the tray, keeping it upright.

Set the DIN65R MF into the OE tray, positive terminal on the RIGHT. Secure with the factory top clamp or J-hook at 10-12 Nm, confirming the hold-down sits flat on the ridge of the case. Reconnect positive first, then negative, and torque the post clamp bolts to the manufacturer's spec (typically 5-7 Nm for M6 stud clamps, 8-10 Nm for M8).

On modern European marques (Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover) built from roughly 2008 onward, the Battery Management System logs each battery swap and limits the alternator's charge rate until the new battery is registered. Use a dealer-grade scan tool (VCDS, ODIS, ISTA, Xentry, Autologic) to register the new battery under its CCA and Ah rating. Without this step the car runs the alternator in reduced-charge mode and the new battery never reaches full state of charge.

Charge off-vehicle at a flooded calcium wet-cell profile: 14.4-14.7V bulk, 13.5-13.8V float at 20°C, with temperature compensation outside 15-25°C ambient. Fuse at the starter or OE loom per the vehicle's wiring diagram rather than at the battery post. For a 24V series bank, pair two of the same age and SOC and fuse once at the start of the run.

Fits factory DIN65R tray positions:
12V petrol and diesel passenger cars with a factory DIN65R tray and D polarity (positive right)
Audi A3 TDI, VW Golf/Polo TDI, BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz A/B-Class, Mazda 3 petrol, Hyundai i30 diesel
Smaller European and import passenger cars with DIN65R OE batteries
Two batteries in series for a 24V 63Ah pack when matched for age and SOC
24V single-battery systems. A single DIN65R MF is 12V only.
Stop-Start vehicles requiring EFB or AGM. Fit the OE-grade AGM or EFB instead.
C polarity (positive LEFT) vehicles. Use sibling DIN65L MF instead.

Q: What does DIN65R mean?
A: It's the European DIN battery size code. The 65 is the capacity band (roughly 50-70Ah), R means the positive terminal sits on the right side when the posts face you. DIN65R trays appear in Audi A3/A4 TDI, VW Golf/Polo TDI, BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz A/B-Class, and other mid-size European and import passenger cars.

Q: What does MF mean?
A: Maintenance-free. The battery is sealed and does not need water top-up over its service life. Calcium-calcium plate chemistry limits water loss during normal charging.

Q: What does CCA stand for?
A: Cold Cranking Amps. The current the battery can deliver for 30 seconds at -18°C while holding voltage above 7.2V. DIN65R MF is rated at 580 CCA, enough for mid-size petrol and diesel engines in Perth and most AU climates.

Q: What is Reserve Capacity?
A: How many minutes the battery can deliver 25A at 25°C before falling to 10.5V. DIN65R MF holds 120 minutes, which is how long the car runs lights, ignition and basic electronics with no alternator before the battery is flat.

Q: What's the difference between D and C polarity?
A: Polarity refers to which side the positive terminal sits. D (DIN65R MF) is positive on the RIGHT, C (sibling DIN65L MF) is positive on the LEFT. Vehicle wiring is wired for one or the other, so check the OE battery's layout before buying.

Q: What's the difference between DIN65R MF and DIN65L MF?
A: Same case, same capacity, same CCA, same reserve. Only the terminal side differs. DIN65R MF fits R polarity trays; DIN65L MF fits L polarity trays. If your current battery has positive on the right, buy DIN65R MF; if positive is on the left, buy DIN65L MF.

Q: Can this replace a factory Stop-Start AGM or EFB battery?
A: No. Stop-Start vehicles (ISS) need AGM or EFB construction to survive the frequent charge-discharge cycles. A wet-cell like DIN65R MF will fail in months under ISS duty. If your car has Stop-Start, fit the OE-grade AGM or EFB instead.

Q: Do I need to reset my car's BMS after installing this?
A: On modern Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover (roughly 2008 onward), yes. The Battery Management System logs each swap and limits the alternator's charge rate until the new battery is registered via a dealer scan tool (VCDS, ODIS, ISTA, Xentry, Autologic). Without the reset, the new battery never reaches full state of charge.

Q: How long should this battery last?
A: The Century Hi Performance DIN line carries a 30-month manufacturer warranty against defects. Typical AU service life for a well-charged DIN wet-cell is 3-5 years, depending on heat, deep-discharge cycles, and alternator health. Short-trip-only use and frequent flat-battery events shorten life.

Q: Can I pair two for a 24V system?
A: Yes, two DIN65R MF in series makes a 24V 63Ah pack. Pair matched for age and state of charge, fuse at the start of the run rather than at each battery, and use the same cable gauge throughout the loop. Not a substitute for a purpose-built 24V battery in continuous commercial-vehicle use.
