A direct-fit calcium starter battery for mid-to-large European diesels and petrols that run power-hungry electronics. Delivers 760 cold-cranking amps for reliable starts on large-displacement engines, and holds 165 minutes of reserve capacity on top of that for the alarm, memory and start-up loads modern cars draw while parked. Suits Audi A6/A8 TDI, Mercedes-Benz E/S-Class diesel, BMW 5/7-Series diesel, Range Rover TDV8, VW Touareg TDI, Volvo XC90 and larger import 4WDs with factory DIN85LH trays.

The case is 353 by 175 by 190 mm and weighs 21.6 kg. Calcium plates hold charge through long sits with about 2% monthly self-discharge, well below a conventional antimony flooded battery. STD tapered posts sit on the C-polarity layout. Central venting, flame arrestor, recessed posts and a state-of-charge eye come standard. Carry handles sit flush with the lid.

This is a flooded calcium wet-cell, not an AGM or EFB. It drops straight into any OE tray spec'd for a DIN85LH flooded unit; it is NOT a substitute for a factory idle-stop (ISS) AGM or EFB where the car was built with one. If the sibling DIN85L MF (D polarity, positive opposite side) suits your vehicle, that is the mirror model, worth comparing before ordering.

What sets it apart

Tested for Australian heat and dust in Century's own climatic chambers, and built with vibration-resistant plate welds and double-insulated separators so the battery survives corrugated dirt roads and heavy underbonnet vibration. The DIN85LH case matches the European and import OE tray spec exactly, so there is no shim or clamp improvisation to make it fit.

Charging, mounting and fusing

Standard flooded calcium charge profile applies, 14.4 to 14.7 V bulk and 13.5 to 13.8 V float at 20°C with temperature compensation. Modern European marques (Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover from roughly 2008 onward) usually need a dealer-scan battery-management reset after fitting so the vehicle's alternator-regulated charge profile is retrained for a fresh battery. Mount to the OE tray with the standard top clamp or J-hook, and torque the posts to 10 to 12 Nm. Fuse at the starter or OE loom, not at the battery post. Two matched DIN85LH MF units in series will run a 24V system; a single battery is 12V only.

  • 760 CCA — reliable starts on large European diesels
  • 165 min reserve — covers alarm and parked-load drain
  • 88Ah capacity — carries sustained auxiliary loads
  • Calcium plates — low self-discharge through long sits
  • Maintenance-free — sealed, no water top-up required
  • STD tapered posts — direct OE post pattern
  • Vibration-resistant — holds up on corrugated dirt roads
  • Central vent and flame arrestor — meets AS vehicle-safety spec

Disconnect the vehicle's negative lead first, then the positive, before swapping the battery. Keep memory-save power on the OBD or interior socket if the vehicle has steering-angle, infotainment or alarm settings that reset on battery removal.

Fit the new battery into the OE tray with the standard top clamp or J-hook. Torque the posts to 10 to 12 Nm. Reconnect positive first, then negative. Smear the posts lightly with a petrolatum-based terminal grease to slow surface corrosion.

Modern European marques (Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover from roughly 2008 onward) usually need a dealer-scan battery-management reset after fitting so the vehicle's alternator-regulated charge profile is retrained for a fresh battery. Older European cars, and most Japanese and Korean vehicles, do not need a reset.

Charge profile is standard flooded calcium wet-cell, 14.4 to 14.7 V bulk and 13.5 to 13.8 V float at 20°C with temperature compensation. Fuse at the starter or OE loom, not at the battery post. Two matched DIN85LH MF units in series will run a 24V system; a single battery is 12V only.

Q: What does DIN85LH MF mean?
A: DIN is the European battery sizing standard, 85 is the capacity index (around 85Ah nominal class), LH refers to the case layout and terminal arrangement, and MF is maintenance-free. The combined code tells you the exact case size and terminal configuration your OE tray needs.

Q: What does CCA actually mean?
A: Cold Cranking Amps is the current the battery can deliver for 30 seconds at -18°C while holding at least 7.2V across the posts, SAE J537 standard. 760 CCA is on the higher side of the DIN85 class, well suited to large diesels and heavy winter starts.

Q: What does RC actually mean?
A: Reserve Capacity is how many minutes the battery can run a 25-amp load at 25°C before dropping to 10.5V. 165 minutes is the published figure, enough to cover alarm current and memory loads on a parked car for several weeks.

Q: What does MF mean?
A: Maintenance-free. The case is sealed with central vents, a flame arrestor and recessed caps; there is no top-up of distilled water required across the warranty period.

Q: What is C polarity and why does it matter?
A: C polarity describes which side of the case the positive terminal sits under Century's convention. The wrong polarity means the OE cables will not reach the terminals cleanly. If your vehicle takes D polarity, the sibling DIN85L MF is the correct equivalent.

Q: Is this a Start-Stop battery?
A: No. This is a standard flooded calcium wet-cell for conventional alternator-charged vehicles. Vehicles with factory idle-stop (ISS) systems need an EFB or AGM replacement; fitting a standard flooded unit to an ISS vehicle cycles it harder than it was designed for and shortens its life.

Q: Will this fit my car?
A: If your OE tray is spec'd for a DIN85LH case with STD tapered posts and C polarity, yes. Measure the tray to confirm 353 by 175 by 190 mm fits, and check the polarity label on the battery you are replacing before ordering.

Q: Do I need a dealer scan after fitting?
A: For modern European marques (Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover from roughly 2008 onward) the battery-management system usually needs a dealer-scan reset so the alternator charge profile is retrained for the fresh battery. For older European cars and most Japanese and Korean vehicles, a reset is not required.

Q: Can I run two in series for a 24V truck?
A: Yes, two matched DIN85LH MF units wired in series run at 24V. Match the batteries by date and age so cell voltages stay balanced; mixing a new battery with an older partner will drag the pair down.

Q: What's the warranty and where is it made?
A: Century publishes a 30-month warranty on the Hi Performance DIN85LH MF for defects in materials and workmanship. The battery is designed and built in Australia for Australian conditions.
