Genuine Deutsch SZ16 solid socket contact, sized to crimp onto 14 AWG (4mm²) wire. The nickel finish with green identification band gives you the standard visual cue every Deutsch-based harness relies on, so pin selection and pairing stay unambiguous inside a multi-cavity DT, DTM or DTP housing.

Solid contacts are the industrial-grade choice over stamped-and-formed. They handle vibration, thermal cycling and repeated mating without contact wear, which is why they are the default in mining, off-road, canopy, service body, trailer and industrial applications. Crimp with the correct four-indent Deutsch tool for consistent, gas-tight terminations.

Buy this socket to complete an SZ16 circuit inside a Deutsch housing. Pair with the matching SZ16 solid pin on the mating half of the connector so both ends carry the same contact class.

Q: What does SZ16 actually mean?
SZ16 is Deutsch's size class for contacts sized for 14 AWG to 18 AWG wire (roughly 0.8 to 2.5mm²). It defines the physical dimensions of the contact so it fits the correct cavity size in a Deutsch housing. The green identification band is the visual cue for SZ16.

Q: Solid vs stamped-and-formed contacts, which one do I need?
Solid contacts are machined from a single piece of brass. They handle vibration, thermal cycling and repeated mating without contact-spring fatigue. Stamped contacts are cheaper but wear out faster. If the harness lives in a vehicle, on a trailer, or anywhere the temperature cycles, solid is the right call.

Q: Socket or pin, which side of the connector does this go into?
The socket (female) contact receives the pin (male) contact. On a keyed Deutsch pair, one housing takes sockets and the other takes pins. Check the housing you are working on before ordering: the plug and receptacle each accept only one contact type.

Q: What wire size does this contact suit?
14 AWG (4mm²) is the primary target size. It will also crimp acceptably onto 16 AWG (1.5mm²) with the correct die setting, but 14 AWG is the sweet spot. For 18 AWG use the nickel-white-band variant instead.

Q: Can I crimp this with regular pliers or an open-barrel crimper?
No. Solid Deutsch contacts need a four-indent Deutsch crimper (HDT-48-00 or equivalent) to form the gas-tight seal Deutsch is designed around. Open-barrel or generic crimps do not compress the contact correctly and the connection will fail under vibration.

Q: What housings does this contact fit?
Any Deutsch housing with SZ16 cavities: DT (2 to 12 way), DTM (2 to 12 way), DTP (2 to 6 way) and the DTHD series. If the cavity is sized for SZ16, this contact drops in.

Q: How much current can one SZ16 contact carry?
13 A per contact is the standard SZ16 rating per Deutsch's published data. At 12V DC that covers most auxiliary lighting, sensor loops and low-current accessories. For higher current use SZ12 (25 A) or SZ8 (40 A) contacts instead.

Q: How do I know these are genuine Deutsch, not a knock-off?
The part number stamped or referenced is 0462-209-16141, the current TE Connectivity/Deutsch catalogue number for the SZ16 solid socket. Generic clones typically carry no part number, use a slightly different wire-well geometry, or lack the correct nickel plating.

Q: Do I need cavity plugs for unused positions in the housing?
Yes, on every unused cavity. Cavity plugs (also called sealing plugs) keep the IP rating intact. A single missing plug in a 12-way housing lets water track through the whole connector.
