A JIS/DIN European-case starter battery for passenger cars and SUVs with the 277 by 175mm DIN65 battery tray, C polarity and STD standard-post tapered terminals. Fits later Holden VE Series 2 Berlina V6, Commodore V6, Statesman V6, VW Golf Mk5/Mk6 petrol, Audi A4 B7, Mercedes C-Class W204 petrol, BMW 3 Series E90 petrol, and other European and imported vehicles with the DIN65 footprint and C polarity. For the mirror polarity, see the sibling [handle:century-hi-performance-battery-din65rh-660cca-130rc-68ah] with the positive post on the right.

The lid carries Century's Platelock plate retention, central venting with a flame arrestor, and a mud rack base that catches shed material away from the plates. The case is 277mm long by 175mm wide, 190mm high over the lid and 190mm over the posts (same height — recessed STD posts), and the finished battery weighs 18.4kg. The STD tapered terminals accept standard DIN clamps, and the hold-down works on vehicles with either a side-ledge or end-ledge clamp.

This is a flooded calcium wet-cell starter battery and does not suit stop-start vehicles — those require the matching Century ISS Active EFB or AGM in the DIN65 case, which charge faster and tolerate frequent crank cycles. It is also not a deep-cycle house battery and should not run cabin loads with the engine off. For 24V series pairing, pair two identical batteries of matched state of charge and age.

What sets it apart

Made in Australia by Century Yuasa in Brisbane. Platelock plate retention, central venting with flame arrestor, mud rack base, and a state-of-charge indicator in the lid are all standard on the Hi Performance DIN range. The 30-month tier sits a step above the entry-level Overlander and a step below the Ultra Hi Performance step-up [handle:century-ultra-hi-performance-battery-din65lhx-mf-12volts-760cca-145rc-77ah] (760CCA / 145 min RC / 77Ah) and the shorter sibling [handle:century-hi-performance-battery-din65l-mf-580cca-120rc-63ah] (580CCA / 120 min RC / 63Ah).

Charging, mounting and fusing

Seat the battery on the OEM tray with the mud-rack base clear of debris, torque the hold-down clamp to 5-8 Nm, and verify the positive post on the LEFT (C polarity) matches your vehicle cable layout before fitting cables. The calcium wet-cell chemistry wants 14.4-14.7V bulk and 13.5-13.8V float with -18 mV/°C temperature compensation; a mismatched AGM or EFB alternator curve will under-charge over time. Fuse any high-current accessory feed at the starter stud with a fusible link or ANL/MIDI/MEGA (never a blade fuse for cranking current), run a dedicated ground strap to chassis, and for European marques from 2008 onwards complete a BMS register/reset after swap (BMW IBS, Mercedes SBC, VW VCDS, Volvo).

  • Australian-made — built by Century Yuasa in Brisbane
  • 660 CCA — strong cold-crank for DIN65 Euro petrols
  • 130 min reserve — long runtime with the engine off
  • Calcium wet-cell — longer plate life and lower water loss
  • Flame arrestor lid — stops vented spark propagating back
  • Mud rack base — keeps sediment clear of the plates
  • Charge indicator — lid eye shows SOC at a glance
  • Platelock plates — vibration-resistant internal construction

Build

Chemistry: Calcium wet-cell | Polarity: C positive left | Terminal: STD standard-post tapered | Hold-Down: Side or end ledge

Length: 277 mm | Width: 175 mm | Height: 190 mm | Total height over posts: 190 mm | Weight: 18.4 kg

Confirm tray fitment — DIN65 case is 277 by 175mm, 190mm high. Verify C polarity (positive on the left) and STD standard-post tapered terminals match your vehicle's existing battery. Vehicles with the DIN65 tray but D polarity need the sibling DIN65RH MF (positive on the right); narrower DIN53 or taller DIN85/DIN100 tray vehicles need the matching case code.

Seat the battery on the OEM tray with the mud rack base clear of debris. Fit the vehicle's hold-down clamp — DIN65 trays use a side-ledge or end-ledge clamp depending on vehicle — and torque to 5-8 Nm, enough to lock the case against vibration without cracking the lid.

Fit the OEM positive and negative cables to the matching posts. For any aftermarket high-current feed (DC-DC charger, inverter, winch), fuse at the starter stud with a fusible link or ANL/MIDI/MEGA fuse — never a blade fuse for cranking current. Run a dedicated ground strap from negative to chassis.

Charging: calcium wet-cell wants 14.4-14.7V bulk and 13.5-13.8V float with -18 mV/°C temperature compensation. European marques from 2008 onwards (BMW IBS, Mercedes SBC, VW VCDS, Volvo) require a BMS register/reset after battery swap so the energy-management system learns the new battery's state of health — otherwise the alternator may under-charge.

Fitment: Passenger cars and SUVs with the 277 by 175mm DIN65 battery tray, C polarity and STD standard-post tapered terminals.

NOT stop-start (ISS) vehicles — EFB or AGM required (see DIN65L EFB or DIN65LH AGM Century ISS Active range)
NOT house-battery / deep-cycle duty
NOT D polarity vehicles — positive post on the RIGHT needs the sibling [handle:century-hi-performance-battery-din65rh-660cca-130rc-68ah]
NOT DIN53 / DIN85 / DIN100 tray — footprint mismatch
Always cross-check against the vehicle's current OEM battery before ordering.

Q: What does DIN65LH MF actually mean?
DIN65 is the European case code (DIN EN 50342) for the 277 by 175mm 68Ah battery footprint. L = positive post on the LEFT. H = High current rating within the DIN65 family. MF = Maintenance Free (sealed, no top-up needed).

Q: What is C polarity and why does it matter?
C polarity means the POSITIVE terminal is on the LEFT when you look at the battery from the front (long side towards you). D polarity is positive on the RIGHT. If your vehicle's existing battery is D polarity, the OEM positive cable will not reach a C polarity battery's left post — you need the mirror sibling DIN65RH MF (R = positive on the right).

Q: What does CCA mean and is 660 CCA enough?
CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) is the discharge amps the battery can sustain for 30 seconds at -18°C while holding above 7.2V. 660 CCA is a strong rating for the DIN65 case class and suits European and imported petrol/diesel passenger cars with standard electrical loads. For higher-demand or luxury vehicles with heavy accessory loads, the Ultra Hi Performance DIN65LHX MF step-up (760 CCA / 145 min RC / 77Ah) is the better pick.

Q: What does RC (Reserve Capacity) mean?
Reserve Capacity is the number of minutes the battery can deliver 25A at 25°C before dropping below 10.5V. 130 min means that with the engine off and 25A of load (lights, infotainment, hazards), the battery holds voltage for roughly 2 hours 10 min before needing a recharge — real-world runtime for a lights-left-on scenario or short periods of accessory use.

Q: Can I use this in a stop-start (ISS) vehicle?
No. Stop-start vehicles cycle the battery dozens of times per trip and need faster charge acceptance than a flooded calcium wet-cell can deliver. Fitting a Hi Performance MF to a stop-start vehicle will shorten battery life dramatically and may disable the ISS function. For ISS vehicles with the DIN65 case, the Century ISS Active EFB (DIN65L EFB) or AGM (DIN65LH AGM) is the correct pick.

Q: Can I use this as a dual-battery / house-battery / deep-cycle?
No. This is a starter battery optimised for short high-current cranking bursts, not sustained low-current discharge. Running cabin loads (fridge, inverter, lights) with the engine off will discharge it below a healthy depth of discharge and shorten service life substantially. Use a dedicated deep-cycle or AGM/lithium for house loads, paired via a DC-DC charger.

Q: What is the difference between the DIN65LH MF (this battery) and the DIN65RH MF?
The only difference is polarity — case size, CCA, RC, Ah, terminal type and all specs are identical. LH = positive on the LEFT; RH = positive on the RIGHT. Match whichever matches your vehicle's existing battery layout.

Q: What is the difference between the DIN65LH MF and DIN65LHX MF Ultra Hi Performance?
Same case size (277 by 175 by 190 mm), same C polarity, same STD terminals. The Ultra Hi Performance DIN65LHX MF steps up to 760 CCA, 145 min RC and 77 Ah with Century's Ultra Hi tier internal construction. Pick the LHX if you have heavy accessory loads, a performance / luxury petrol, or extreme-climate use.

Q: Can I pair two of these in series for 24V?
Yes. Two identical batteries of matched state of charge and age wired in series give 24V at the same Ah rating (68 Ah). The pair should be the same vintage and manufacturing batch — mismatched age or SOC causes one battery to work harder than the other, shortening both. Replace both at the same time.

Q: What vehicles does the DIN65LH MF fit?
Any passenger car or SUV with the 277 by 175mm DIN65 battery tray, C polarity and STD standard-post tapered terminals. Known fitments include: Holden VE Series 2 Berlina V6 (2010-2013), Commodore V6 and Statesman V6; VW Golf Mk5/Mk6 petrol, Jetta petrol, Passat B6 petrol; Audi A4 B7, A6 C6 petrol; Mercedes C-Class W204 petrol, E-Class W211 petrol; BMW 3 Series E90 petrol, 5 Series E60 petrol. Always cross-check against the vehicle's current OEM battery before ordering.

Q: Is this battery ready to use out of the box?
Yes. Hi Performance MF batteries ship charged and ready to fit. Check the state-of-charge indicator in the lid before fitting — green means ready, dark means needs a charge, white or clear means replace. Century conditions stock on arrival; we sell what they have conditioned.

Q: How long does a Century DIN65LH MF last?
Service life for a correctly-fitted and correctly-charged Hi Performance DIN battery is typically 3-5 years in Australian conditions, longer in cooler climates and shorter in hot northern climates. The 30-month Century warranty covers manufacturing defects within that window; heat, deep discharge and chronic under-charging shorten life regardless of warranty.
