The Duoetto MK2 gives you 10 litres of stored hot water that is ready when you are, rather than the wait you get from an instantaneous system. It suits caravans, RVs, camper trailers, horse floats, food vans and under-sink use at home, and it is fully compatible with the EGON Water Hub.
What makes it practical for touring is that it runs on either supply and works out which one it has on its own. On 240V it draws 4.2A and puts 1000W into the tank, taking about 45 minutes to reach 70°C, with a thermostat adjustable from 30°C to 75°C. On 12V it draws 25A for 300W and takes about 2.5 hours to the same temperature. That is why the usual pattern is to heat on mains whenever you are hooked up and keep 12V for when you are not.
Worth planning for: at 25A over 2.5 hours, heating a full tank from cold on 12V costs you roughly 60 amp hours. That is a serious chunk of most battery banks, so it is well worth sizing your battery and charging around it rather than discovering it on the first night away.
The tank is SPCC steel with an enamel lining for corrosion resistance, built on a single weld line, wrapped in polyurethane insulation to hold heat once it is up to temperature, and rated to 117 PSI. The element is Incoloy 840, chosen for service life in exactly this kind of duty. Over-temperature and dry-run protection are both built in, and a combination pressure relief and non-return valve is supplied. The whole unit is 7.4kg empty and 409 x 262 x 267mm, and mounts on a wall or on the floor to suit the space you have.
