A dual zone chest fridge freezer that runs a fridge and a freezer in the same cabinet, with a bi-directional removable lid and a Bluetooth app for setting both zones from your phone. Keeps drinks and groceries cold on one side, frozen meat and ice on the other, off 12V DC, 24V DC or 240V AC. Fits caravan slide-outs, 4WD cargo areas, boat decks and camper trailer kitchens.

Cabinet is roll-bond evaporator over a smooth-walled interior, with spring-loaded metal handles, four tie-down points and bright internal LED lighting. The 50L and 65L run a Secop PBC 2.0 compressor; the 80L and 95L step up to the PBC 2.5. Set temperature range is -18°C to +10°C across the range. A 15A resettable circuit breaker handles over-current, and three-level battery protection stops the fridge flattening your crank battery.

The Down Under II is tropical rated for Australian conditions and made in Caloundra on the Queensland Sunshine Coast. Mount it on a slide for cargo-area access, or carry it between vehicle and camp with the fold-down handles. Drain the water out through the bottom plug after defrosting and keep ventilation clear around the compressor side.

  • Dual zone cooling — fridge on one side, freezer on the other
  • Bluetooth app — set both zones from your phone
  • Secop compressor — Danish variable-speed cooling
  • Roll-bond evaporator — faster cooling, smoother interior
  • Bi-directional lid — opens either side, lifts off completely
  • Tie-down points — four strapping points for cargo security
  • LED lighting — bright internal illumination
  • Battery protection — three-level cut-out saves your crank battery
  • Eco and Max modes — tune compressor speed for runtime or pull-down
  • Made in Australia — built in Caloundra on the Queensland Sunshine Coast

Setup

Plug the Anderson-style 12V lead into any Anderson-fitted DC outlet, or use the included Anderson-to-cigarette-socket adapter in a standard 12V accessory socket.

Mains setup: the slimline 240V to 12V adapter plugs into a GPO and feeds the fridge the same way the DC lead does. Running off mains at home before a trip pre-cools the cabinet so DC load drops once you leave.

Mounting

Secure with four tie-down points, two on each side. Keep clear space around the compressor side for ventilation; blocked airflow raises current draw and reduces compressor life.

App setup

Download the EvaKool app, pair with the fridge via Bluetooth on first power-up, then set target temperatures per zone.

Q: What does dual zone actually mean?
One cabinet split into two separately-controlled compartments. You set one as a fridge and the other as a freezer, run both as fridge, or disable one zone to save power. The divider is removable if you want a single zone.

Q: Which size suits me?
50L: two to three people on short trips, cans and basics. 65L: three to four people, a long weekend with fresh meat. 80L: four people, a week off-grid. 95L: large family or extended off-grid, a big shop before heading out.

Q: What is the Secop compressor and why does it matter?
Secop is the Danish compressor brand that spun off from Nidec Danfoss. Variable-speed Secop units draw less current than fixed-speed compressors because they run slow when the cabinet is already cold, and ramp up only when needed.

Q: Does it run off 240V mains?
Yes. A slimline 240V to 12V adapter is in the box. Plug it into a GPO at home and the fridge runs the same way it does in the vehicle. Pre-cool the cabinet off mains before a trip and the first few hours of DC load are much lighter.

Q: What does tropical rated mean?
The rating defines the ambient temperature the fridge can hold its set point in. Tropical rating covers hot and humid Australian conditions up to 43°C ambient without the compressor struggling. Non-tropical fridges lose temperature control above about 32°C.

Q: What size battery and solar do I need?
Starting point for the 65L in Australian conditions is a 100Ah AGM or 60Ah lithium auxiliary with 200W of solar. The 80L and 95L want 120Ah or 80Ah lithium plus 250W of solar for comfortable off-grid days. Actual numbers depend on ambient temperature, how often you open the lid, and other loads on the same battery.

Q: What are the battery protection settings?
Three selectable levels of low-voltage cut-out. The lowest setting lets the fridge keep running on a flat auxiliary without flattening the crank battery; the highest setting cuts the fridge well before the auxiliary is empty, saving starting capacity in a shared-battery setup.

Q: Does the lid open from either side?
Yes. The bi-directional lid opens from the left or the right, and lifts off completely for easier reach into the cabinet or when transferring food.

Q: Where is it made?
In Caloundra on the Queensland Sunshine Coast. EvaKool has been building portable fridges in Australia for over 20 years.

Q: Can I run both zones as a freezer?
Yes. Set both zones to a freezing temperature in the app. The temperature range is -18°C to +10°C in each zone independently.

Q: How does the Bluetooth app work?
Download the EvaKool app, pair with the fridge once over Bluetooth, then set and monitor each zone from your phone within range. The front-panel display is still available if you prefer to set it directly.
