A Britax 12-pin flat trailer socket that mounts on the tow vehicle and carries the standard trailer lighting plus five extra pins for auxiliary loads. Fits caravans, campers, horse floats and camper trailers wired to the Australian 12-pin flat standard, and accepts a 7-pin flat trailer plug on the first seven pins for an older trailer running lights only.

The housing is moulded weather-resistant plastic with brass terminal contacts for low voltage drop at every joint. The 7 small pins run tail, stop, indicator, reverse and earth at 15A per pole; the 5 larger pins carry electric brakes, fridge feed, charge line, reverse camera power and spare at 35A per pole, all at 12V DC. The socket mounts flush to a vehicle panel through two screw holes in the base and a hinged cap keeps rain off the pins when nothing is plugged in.

Rated 12V DC only. Not suitable for 24V heavy-truck trailers; step up to a dedicated 24V-rated connector pattern instead. Fuse every auxiliary circuit on the vehicle-side supply before it reaches the socket, and match the fuse rating to the load.

Trailer socket for the tow vehicle wired to the Australian 12-pin flat standard
Suits caravans, campers, horse floats and camper trailers running 12-pin flat wiring with 7-pin lighting plus auxiliary circuits for electric brakes, reverse camera, fridge or battery charge
Also accepts 7-pin flat trailer plugs on the first 7 pins for basic lighting-only use
Not compatible with 7-pin small round, 7-pin large round, 13-pin euro or 24V heavy-truck trailer plugs

Q: What makes this a 12-pin flat socket?

A: It follows the Australian 12-pin flat connector standard. The 7 small pins carry lighting (tail, stop, indicator, reverse, earth) and the 5 larger pins carry auxiliary circuits like an electric brake controller, caravan fridge feed, auxiliary battery charger, reverse camera power and spare.

Q: Will a 7-pin flat trailer plug fit this socket?

A: Yes. The first 7 pins on the socket match the 7-pin flat lighting layout exactly, so a 7-pin flat trailer plug drops straight in for tail, stop, indicator and reverse functions. The 5 auxiliary pins stay unused.

Q: Will this work with a 7-pin small round or 7-pin large round trailer plug?

A: No. Small round, large round and 13-pin euro plugs all use different pin layouts. Fit a dedicated adaptor between the socket and plug, or wire the correct matching socket for the trailer.

Q: What are the 5 extra pins for?

A: The 5 larger pins (35A per pole) are typically wired for electric brakes, caravan fridge feed, auxiliary battery charging, reverse camera power and reverse-light trigger. Pin assignment follows the Australian 12-pin flat standard; check the pin-out diagram before wiring.

Q: What current does each pin handle?

A: The 7 small pins are rated 15A per pole and the 5 large pins are rated 35A per pole, all at 12V DC. That covers standard trailer lighting plus most auxiliary loads short of a high-draw electric winch.

Q: Does the socket come with mounting screws?

A: No. The socket mounts to the vehicle via two screw holes in the base. Supply the mounting screws and the vehicle-side wiring to suit your mounting panel and loom.

Q: Is it weatherproof?

A: The plastic housing is weather-resistant for standard outdoor vehicle mounting and the hinged cap keeps rain off the pins when nothing is plugged in. Keep the cap closed between tows to stop corrosion on exposed pins.

Q: Can I use this on a 24V heavy-truck trailer?

A: No. Rated 12V DC only. For 24V heavy-truck trailers fit a dedicated 24V-rated connector pattern (typically large round 7-pin or Jost 15-pin).

Q: Do I need to fuse the extra auxiliary circuits?

A: Yes. Every auxiliary circuit should be fused on the vehicle-side supply before it reaches the socket, and the fuse rating should match the load (for example 15A for a fridge, 30A for a brake controller).

Q: Where do I get the matching plug for the trailer side?

A: Our [flat-trailer-connector-plug-12pin] is the matching 12-pin flat trailer plug, wired identically to pair with this socket.
