A 12V 85Ah AGM dry cell that runs auxiliary 4WD loads and starts a vehicle off the same case. Holds a fridge, LED lighting, water pump and inverter overnight, then turns the engine over in the morning. Fits dual-battery setups in 4WDs, caravans, camper trailers, boat helms and canopies.

Sealed non-spillable AGM construction inside a flame-retardant ABS case at 259 × 168 × 208mm, 214mm overall at the terminal tops. Fits standard N70 trays. Mounts upright, on either side or inverted so it drops into tight engine bays and under-floor caravan boxes. Terminals are satin-forged brass in standard automotive post format, 22.8kg.

Charge with an AGM profile only. Lithium or gel profiles overcharge or undercharge the plates and cut service life. Fuse the main feed at 60A off an auxiliary circuit and keep the first-metre harness at 8 AWG or heavier.

Drops into a standard N70 battery tray. Secure with the vehicle's existing hold-down. Mount upright, on either side or inverted. Keep the terminals clear of nearby metal.

Torque the terminal bolts to 8-10 Nm. Use 8 AWG (or heavier) tinned-copper cable for the first metre off each post. Fuse the main feed at 60A at the battery end with a MIDI or ANL fuse.

Pair with a DC-DC charger set to the AGM profile when running from the vehicle alternator. For solar input, use an MPPT controller set to the AGM profile with absorption 14.4-14.7V and float 13.5-13.8V.

Q: What does AGM Dry Cell actually mean?
A sealed lead-acid battery with the electrolyte absorbed into fibreglass mats between the plates. Nothing is loose, so it does not spill and can mount on its side or inverted. It also handles vibration better than a flooded battery.

Q: Can this crank the engine as well as run auxiliary loads?
Yes. 620 CCA will crank most 4-cylinder petrol and small diesel engines, and 85Ah with 170 minutes of reserve runs house loads overnight. If the vehicle is a larger diesel or needs higher starting current, step up to the HVT70ZZLD (780 CCA).

Q: What does reserve capacity mean?
Minutes a fully charged battery delivers 25A at 25°C before dropping below 10.5V. The HVT-70D holds 170 minutes. Reserve capacity matters more than Ah for predicting how long a camp fridge keeps running without a top-up.

Q: Can it mount on its side or inverted?
Yes. Sealed AGM construction means no electrolyte to spill. It mounts upright, on either side or fully inverted, so it fits tight engine bays, under-floor caravan boxes and canopy drawers.

Q: Is it safe under the bonnet?
Yes. The case is rated to 65°C maximum operating temperature and the sealed design keeps gassing contained. Fit it where a flooded N70 would normally sit.

Q: What charger profile should I use?
AGM profile only. Absorption 14.4-14.7V, float 13.5-13.8V. Lithium profiles push the plates past 14.8V and shorten life; gel profiles undercharge AGM and sulfate the plates. Any Redarc, Victron or Projecta DC-DC charger set to AGM is correct.

Q: What size cable and fuse off the terminals?
8 AWG tinned copper for the first metre, fused at 60A at the battery end with a MIDI or ANL fuse. Step up to 6 AWG at 80A if the auxiliary loads include a 1000W inverter or a high-current winch.

Q: Can I run two of these in parallel?
Yes, provided both batteries are the same model, same age and at the same state of charge before connecting. Cable both to the common load with equal-length runs so neither does more work than the other.

Q: What is the difference between this and the HVT70ZZLD?
Same AGM Dry Cell chemistry and case family. The HVT70ZZLD is 105Ah / 780 CCA, more capacity and more cranking for larger diesel engines or longer off-grid runs. The HVT-70D is 85Ah / 620 CCA, same N70 footprint, lighter, cheaper, and the right pick for 4-cylinder petrol or small diesel setups.

Q: What warranty does SSB cover?
3-year private-use warranty against manufacturing defects (2-year deep-cycle use). Covered defects are replaced on proof of purchase. Normal wear from heavy cycling, over-discharge below 50% state of charge, and wrong-profile charging are excluded.
