The SSB HVT-50LD is a 12V 60Ah dry cell AGM battery that doubles as a deep-cycle house battery and a 600CCA starter in a single N50 case with reversed polarity (positive on the left). It fits dual-battery systems in 4WDs, caravans, boats and camper trailers that call for the N50 footprint with the positive terminal on the left-hand end.

The case measures 238 by 172 by 182mm (188mm over the posts) and weighs 18kg. SSB's dry cell construction uses a high-purity alloy that pushes the cycle life past standard AGMs and tolerates deeper discharges. Fire-retardant ABS casing keeps the pack safe under the bonnet, where heat soak kills most AGMs early. STD-post terminals bolt down with ring lugs.

Fully sealed and VRLA, so it mounts on any angle and vents no gas, safe inside a canopy, caravan cabinet or boat cabin. Charge on an AGM-profile charger with a float stage, not a bulk-only automotive charger that will boil off the electrolyte. If running as a house bank in parallel with a cranking battery, use a DC-DC charger or VSR, never a direct link to the alternator.

  • Dual-purpose — deep-cycle house bank plus 600CCA cranking
  • Dry Cell AGM — sealed, no gas, mounts on any angle
  • High-purity alloy — extended cycle life, deeper discharge tolerance
  • Fire-retardant ABS case — safe under the bonnet to 65°C
  • Reversed polarity — positive terminal on the left end
  • N50 case — drops into standard 4WD auxiliary trays

Mounts on any angle (sealed VRLA, no spill). Secure with a hold-down clamp before closing the lid. STD post terminals, torque the ring-terminal nuts evenly.

Charge only on an AGM-profile charger with a float stage. A bulk-only automotive charger will boil off the electrolyte. Running as an auxiliary bank in parallel with a start battery: use a DC-DC charger or VSR, not a direct alternator link.

Dual-purpose battery fitting any 4WD, caravan, camper, boat or commercial build taking the N50 case with reversed polarity (positive on the left).
4WD dual-battery systems with the N50 auxiliary tray
Caravans and camper trailers running an AGM house bank
Trailer boats and runabouts needing combined start + deep-cycle
Motorhomes, commercial equipment and backup power banks
Under-bonnet installations (temperature-tolerant to 65°C)
Builds requiring standard polarity (positive on the right) — use HVT-50D instead

Q: What does AGM actually mean?
Absorbed Glass Mat. Fibre-glass mats hold the electrolyte between the plates so nothing sloshes and nothing spills. Sealed, vibration-tolerant, mounts on any angle, safe inside a canopy or cabin.

Q: What does dual-purpose actually mean?
A battery sized for both cranking and deep discharge. The HVT-50LD can start the engine (600CCA) and still take repeated 50% discharges running a fridge and lights overnight. A pure cranking battery dies fast under deep discharge; a pure deep-cycle doesn't crank well.

Q: What does CCA actually mean?
Cold Cranking Amps — the current the battery delivers for 30 seconds at -18°C while holding a usable voltage. 600A covers most 4-cylinder petrol and small diesel 4WDs on a cold morning.

Q: What's the difference between HVT-50LD and HVT-50D?
Polarity. Both are 60Ah / 600CCA in the N50 case. HVT-50LD has reversed polarity (positive on the left end); HVT-50D has standard polarity (positive on the right). Match the layout to the vehicle or tray — wrong polarity reaches the wrong lug.

Q: Can I run it under the bonnet?
Yes. Dry cell AGM with a thermal management layer, rated to 65°C and fire-retardant ABS case. The HVT range is one of the few AGMs sold specifically for underbonnet use in Australia.

Q: Can I use it in an enclosed canopy or cabin?
Yes. Fully sealed, no gas emissions, no ventilation requirement — safe inside a camper interior, caravan cabinet or boat cabin.

Q: What charger does it need?
An AGM-profile charger with a float stage. A bulk-only automotive charger overcharges and boils off the electrolyte. A smart charger with a dedicated AGM profile (CTEK, Victron, NOCO, Projecta) is the right call. Running as an auxiliary in parallel with a cranking battery: use a DC-DC charger (Redarc BCDC, Victron Orion-Tr), never a direct alternator link.

Q: How long will it last?
Depends on discharge depth. Treat the HVT-50LD like any premium AGM: cycled to 50% depth of discharge, 400-plus cycles is realistic; cycled hard to 80%, cycles drop sharply. A quality AGM-mode charger and avoiding deep discharges past 50% add years.
