An anodised aluminium rail pair that mounts a small solar panel to a 4WD roof, caravan panel, camper trailer or boat canopy. Lifts the panel 32mm off the mount surface so air moves underneath and rain runs off. Fits panels with a side frame of 17 to 25mm, the low-profile shape used on most 80W to 160W caravan and 4WD solar panels.

Each rail is 800mm long, 40mm wide and 32mm high in black-anodised aluminium extrusion. Pre-drilled mount holes along the length suit most roof-rail and canopy bolt patterns, and a hacksaw trims the rail to any shorter length for a narrower panel. The panel bolts to the top face through its factory frame holes.

Match the rail to the panel’s side frame height before ordering. These suit 17 to 25mm frames, and thicker 25 to 42mm frames need the larger rail twin pack. Mounting bolts and roof sealant are not included, so measure the panel’s frame hole thread (usually M5 or M6) and pick stainless bolts to suit the roof panel thickness.

You’ll also need

Stainless M5 or M6 bolts, nuts and washers to suit the panel frame holes and the roof panel thickness, plus a bead of neutral-cure silicone or butyl tape under each rail foot to seal the roof holes. For thicker-framed panels, use the larger rail twin pack below.

  • Anodised aluminium — rust-free on roofs and coastal mounts
  • 800mm rail — spans a small 80W to 160W panel
  • 32mm clear — air moves under, rain runs off
  • Pre-drilled — mounts to common roof-rail bolt patterns
  • 17 to 25mm fit — low-profile panel frames
  • Cut to size — hacksaw to any shorter length
  • Twin pack — two rails ship together for one panel
  • Black anodised — low-glare on vehicle roofs

Aluminium rail pair for small solar panels
Fits 4WD roofs, caravan panels, camper trailers, boat canopies
Not for panel frames thicker than 25mm. Use the larger rail twin pack instead

Q: What panel frame thickness fits these rails?
The small rails suit panels with a side frame of 17 to 25mm. That is the low-profile frame on most 80W to 160W caravan and 4WD panels. Panels with a thicker 25 to 42mm frame need the larger rail twin pack.

Q: Can I cut the rails shorter?
Yes. A hacksaw cuts the anodised extrusion cleanly. File the cut edge, dab an anodising touch-up pen on any bare metal, and the shorter rail is good to mount.

Q: Are mounting bolts included?
No. Pick stainless M5 or M6 bolts (check the panel’s frame hole thread), length to suit the roof panel plus any backing structure, with nuts and washers to match.

Q: Why is the rail 32mm high instead of flat?
The 32mm gap lets air move under the panel so it runs cooler and makes more power, and gives rain and road grime somewhere to drain instead of pooling on the roof.

Q: Will the rails stay rust-free near the coast?
Yes. Anodised aluminium handles salt air without pitting. Use stainless bolts rather than plated steel so the fasteners last as long as the rails do.

Q: Do these fit a flat caravan roof?
Yes. Bolt each rail across the panel’s long edges, run a bead of neutral-cure silicone or butyl tape under the rail foot before tightening, and seal the bolt heads on the roof underside.

Q: Can I mount two panels on one pair of rails?
Usually no. One twin pack handles one panel. Two panels side by side want two pairs of rails so each panel bolts solidly along its own frame edges.

Q: Will these fit a thicker-framed 200W or 250W panel?
Not normally. Larger panels tend to carry a 25 to 42mm side frame, which needs the larger rail twin pack. Check the panel’s side frame height before ordering.

Q: Do I need to seal the mount holes on the roof?
Yes. Any hole through a vehicle or caravan roof needs a neutral-cure silicone bead or butyl tape under the rail foot and around each bolt, so water cannot track along the bolt shank into the roof.

Q: Will the rails fit directly to roof racks or crossbars?
Yes, through the pre-drilled holes along the rail length. On tubular crossbars use purpose-made rail-to-bar clamps so the rail sits flat against the bar face.
