A right-angle IP68 cable gland that seals 4 to 8mm cable entries into a canopy, enclosure or junction box while keeping the cable running flat against the panel. Feeds through a 16mm mounting hole and clamps the sheath with a rubber compression ring behind the nut.

The two-piece nylon body threads together by hand, no special tools needed. UV-stable so it does not chalk or crack sitting on a 4WD canopy or trailer in the sun. The 90 degree body clears the panel by around 25mm, so cable exits parallel to the enclosure wall rather than sticking straight out into whatever is mounted alongside it.

Rate the panel hole at 16mm; a larger hole loses the seal. Snug the compression nut only until the rubber grips the cable sheath firmly, not so tight that the nylon thread strips.

Gland size guide

Pick by the diameter of the cable, including the outer sheath, being fed through:

Gland Cable range Panel hole
EG9 (this one) 4–8mm 16mm
EG11 5–10mm 18.5mm

Need the bigger size?

  • IP68 rated, sealed against dust and continuous submersion, not just splashes
  • Right-angle body, keeps cable running flat against the panel in tight spaces
  • Rubber clamping ring, compresses onto the cable sheath for a sealed entry
  • UV-stable nylon, resists cracking from sun and weather exposure outdoors
  • Two-piece gland, hand-tightens with no special tools needed

Q: What does IP68 actually mean?
A: It is a two-part rating; the 6 means fully dust-tight, the 8 means it can handle continuous submersion, not just splashes. For this gland, that is what keeps water and dust out of the cable entry even if the enclosure sits in spray or gets hosed down washing the vehicle.

Q: What cable sizes does this fit?
A: 4 to 8mm outer cable diameter, covering most single automotive cables and small looms.

Q: How do I install it?
A: Drill a 16mm hole in the panel, thread the body through from outside, feed the cable, then tighten the compression nut until the rubber grips the sheath firmly. That compression is what creates the IP68 seal; a loose nut lets water in.

Q: What panel thickness does it fit?
A: Panels up to around 3mm thick with the body alone, thicker with the supplied lock nut on the inside face.

Q: Can I use this on a 4WD canopy or trailer?
A: Yes, it is built for exactly that kind of outdoor, vibration-prone mount: canopies, trailer junction boxes and camper trailer wiring points.

Q: Why nylon instead of metal?
A: Nylon does not corrode in wet or salty air the way brass or steel does, and it insulates the entry so the cable is never carrying current across a conductive gland body. The UV stabiliser keeps it from cracking outdoors.

Q: What temperature range does it handle?
A: Rated for continuous outdoor use across normal Australian ambient conditions, well within the temperatures a canopy or enclosure sees in service.

Q: My cable is bigger than 8mm, what do I need?
A: Step up to the 33mm EG11 gland, rated for 5 to 10mm cable and an 18.5mm panel hole.
