The Manager Alpha50 is a 12V battery management system that charges an auxiliary bank from a vehicle alternator, 240V AC mains and solar in one unit. Puts out up to 50A continuous to run a fridge, lights, inverter and 12V accessories off the house battery while the start battery stays recovered and ready. Fits caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, 4WD tourers and van conversions that need one piece of gear covering every charge source.

The chassis is 400 by 154 by 120mm and weighs 5.8kg, with a 9-32V DC start-battery input, a 9-32V DC solar input and a 95-264V AC 45-65Hz mains input built in. RedVision Pro display and a Smart Battery Monitor ship in the box, with Bluetooth 5.1 pairing out to 42 metres through the Redarc app. Green Power Priority pulls from solar first, then the alternator, then mains, so the free electrons go in first.

The Alpha50 is a non-sealed unit with a 240V AC input, so it mounts inside the vehicle, not in the engine bay. Fuse the start battery, solar and house battery sides to protect each path, and have the 240V AC side wired by a licensed electrician. We do both in our Perth workshop under EC17073.

What sets it apart

Three inputs, one unit — alternator, 240V AC mains and solar built in.

50A continuous output — real headroom for a fridge, lights and a small inverter.

Green Power Priority — solar first, alternator next, mains last, so free electrons go in first.

Start battery recovery — keeps the crank battery charged and brings a flat one back.

RedVision Pro display — real-time state of charge, current flow and run-time estimates.

Bluetooth 5.1 to 42 metres — monitor and set profiles from the Redarc app on the phone.

Mounting and install

The Alpha50 is 400 by 154 by 120mm and bolts to a solid flat surface inside the vehicle. The chassis is not sealed and the 240V AC input is regulated electrical, so engine-bay mounting is unsuitable and the mains side must be wired by a licensed electrician. We install it in our Perth workshop under EC17073 and run the start-battery, solar and house-battery cables to size with the fuses that protect each path.

If the install is DIY, read the Redarc Manager Alpha50 manual before pulling anything apart. The 240V AC lead off the Alpha50 must terminate in a compliant appliance inlet and lead that satisfies AS/NZS 3000; use a licensed sparky for the mains side.

Weight: 5.8 kg

The Alpha50 bolts to a solid flat surface inside the vehicle. The chassis is 400 mm long by 154 mm wide by 120 mm high and weighs 5.8 kg, so plan a mount that handles that weight under vibration. Keep it away from heat and spray and leave room around the vents for airflow.

Wire the start-battery input, the solar input and the house-battery output in cable sized to the 50A rating with a fuse on each path at its source. Match the house-battery chemistry profile in the Redarc app or on the RedVision Pro display at commissioning.

The 240V AC input is regulated electrical under AS/NZS 3000 and must be wired by a licensed electrician. Elevate Automotive is a Licensed Electrical Contractor (EC17073, Building and Energy WA) and can do the full install — the DC side, the mains side and the commissioning — in our Perth workshop.

For DIY, read the Manager Alpha50 instruction manual before pulling anything apart. The 240V AC lead must terminate in a compliant appliance inlet; use any licensed sparky for the mains side.

not a 24V or 48V unit
4WD tourers, caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, van conversions
Vehicles with a 12V start battery and a 12V house bank

Q: What does a battery management system actually do?
A battery management system brings together DC-DC charging from the alternator, AC charging from 240V mains and MPPT solar charging in one unit, then runs them to the correct profile for the house battery chemistry while reading state of charge and current flow. The Alpha50 covers all three sources at up to 50A combined and shows the result on the RedVision Pro display.

Q: Which battery chemistries does the Alpha50 support?
Gel, AGM, Calcium, Standard Lead Acid and Lithium per Redarc current publication. The chemistry is set from the Redarc app or the RedVision Pro display at install. Match it to the auxiliary battery label.

Q: Can I run it off 24V?
No. The Alpha50 is a 12V output unit — its 50A charging feeds a 12V house bank only. A 24V house system needs a 24V BMS.

Q: Is the Alpha50 suitable for engine-bay mounting?
No. The chassis is not sealed to an IP rating and the 240V AC input is regulated electrical. Mount it inside the vehicle on a solid flat surface — a battery box, a bed base, a dedicated bulkhead — away from heat and spray.

Q: What is Green Power Priority?
Green Power Priority is the Alpha50 preferring solar input when it is available, then the alternator, then 240V AC mains last. Free electrons go in first, which lowers running costs on long trips and keeps the house bank topped on the move.

Q: Does the display and Bluetooth come in the box?
Yes. The RedVision Pro display and the Smart Battery Monitor with Bluetooth 5.1 ship with the Alpha50. Pair the Redarc app over Bluetooth from up to 42 metres for state of charge, current flow and chemistry profile selection.

Q: What is the difference between the Alpha50 and the Manager30?
The Alpha50 charges at up to 50A simultaneous and ships with the RedVision Pro display and Bluetooth monitoring, while the Manager30 charges at up to 30A and uses a separate RedVision touch display. The Alpha50 chassis is also 55% smaller and 20% lighter than the comparable earlier system.

Q: Can I use the Alpha50 as my only source of 240V in the camper?
No. The Alpha50 takes 240V AC as a charging input only — it does not output 240V. A 240V appliance circuit in the camper still needs an inverter or a mains hook-up through a licensed install.

Q: Does the 240V AC side need a licensed electrician?
Yes. Any 240V AC lead and inlet on the vehicle is regulated electrical under AS/NZS 3000 — the mains side has to be wired by a licensed electrician. We do this in our Perth workshop under EC17073, or any licensed sparky can do it.

Q: What warranty does the Alpha50 come with?
2-year Redarc warranty against manufacturing defects. Full terms in our warranty policy.
