LITHIUM IN A LIVING SPACE

Built for batteries that sit inside the van, not in an open locker

3MM ALUMINIUM

Powder coated, and it will not rust like a steel box

SEALED, AND VENTED OUTSIDE

A 12mm vent fitting runs a hose to the exterior, so anything the battery vents leaves the vehicle instead of the cabin

Cut, folded and coated by us, and available as a custom build

Lithium batteries are routinely installed inside living spaces, and that is exactly where a bare battery on a shelf becomes a problem. This compartment is the enclosure for doing it properly: a sealed, powder-coated 3mm aluminium box that holds one lithium battery, keeps it clamped down over corrugations, and vents to the outside of the vehicle rather than into the space you sleep in.

It is fully sealed, with one important condition. A 12mm push-fit vent fitting sits on the top face, and a 12mm hose runs from there to the exterior of the vehicle so anything the battery vents goes outside. The seal is only as good as the installation — the lid has to be fitted and sealed correctly for the compartment to do its job. Where we supply the compartment on its own rather than fitting it ourselves, that part is in the installer's hands, so it is worth being deliberate about it.

On standards, we would rather be straight with you. The compartment is designed around the requirements of AS/NZS 3001.2:2022, which is the standard covering electrical installations in relocatable vehicles. It does not carry third-party certification, and no enclosure on its own can make an installation compliant — that comes down to the whole install and the person doing it. Wiring and mounting should be carried out by a competent person.

What fits. It takes the Amptron BluEdge 200Ah or the Custom Lithium Compact 310Ah. Those two share a case size, so if one fits, the other does:
Amptron BluEdge 12V 200Ah →  ·  Custom Lithium Compact 310Ah →

Lithium only. Do not put a lead acid, AGM, gel or calcium battery in this compartment. They vent differently and the enclosure is not built for it.

To finish the install you will also need cable, lugs and the vent hose, none of which are in the box:
0 B&S single core battery cable, black and red →
50-8 copper cable lugs →
12mm hose for the vent run → — choose the Black Coil, which is 12mm on the outside and is the size the push-fit fitting takes.
You will also need a polyurethane sealant such as Sikaflex for the lid, which we do not stock.

Made by us in Western Australia. Backed by a 12 month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

  • Lets a lithium battery live inside a caravan, camper, motorhome or troop carrier rather than in an open locker
  • Sealed enclosure with a 12mm vent fitting, so anything the battery vents is piped outside the vehicle
  • Folded from 3mm aluminium and powder coated black, so it does not rust like a steel box
  • Integrated hold-down plate keeps the battery clamped over corrugations
  • Designed around AS/NZS 3001.2:2022
  • Suits the Amptron 200Ah and the Custom Lithium Compact 310Ah
  • Mounting feet with fixing holes on both sides

Everything this install needs

0 of 0 in the box
  • Wiring and mounting should be carried out by a competent person, and the finished installation should comply with AS/NZS 3001.2:2022.
  • The compartment is only sealed if the lid is fitted and sealed correctly. Run a continuous bead of polyurethane sealant, such as Sikaflex, and let it cure before the battery goes in.
  • Where we supply the compartment rather than fitting it, the quality of that seal is down to the installer. It is the one step that decides whether the enclosure does its job.
  • Connect a 12mm hose to the push-fit vent fitting on the top face and run it to the exterior of the vehicle. Keep the run falling where you can and avoid low points that could trap water.
  • Bolt the compartment down through the mounting feet to structure, not to floor lining or cabinetry panel alone.
  • Size the battery cable for the current and the run length, and crimp 50-8 lugs to suit 0 B and S cable.
  • Seat the battery on the base, then fit the hold-down plate so the battery cannot move.
Suits caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, van builds and troop carriers where the battery has to sit inside the living space
Mounts to structure through the fixing holes in the mounting feet
Needs a path from the compartment lid to the exterior of the vehicle for the 12mm vent hose

Q: Why does a lithium battery need a sealed and vented box at all?
Because it is going inside a space people sleep in. A sealed enclosure with a vent run to the outside means that in the unlikely event the battery vents, it goes outside the vehicle rather than into the cabin. It also keeps the terminals covered and the battery clamped down.

Q: Is it certified to AS/NZS 3001.2:2022?
No, and we will not claim otherwise. It is designed around the requirements of that standard, but it does not carry third-party certification. No enclosure by itself makes an installation compliant, because compliance is a property of the whole installation and the person who signs off on it.

Q: What batteries fit?
The Amptron BluEdge 200Ah and the Custom Lithium Compact 310Ah. Those two share a case size at 370 by 190 by 245mm, so if one fits the other does.

Q: Can I put an AGM or lead acid battery in it?
No. This compartment is for lithium only, LiFePO4 or lithium-ion. Lead acid, AGM, gel and calcium batteries vent differently and the enclosure is not built for them.

Q: What else do I need to buy?
The battery, 0 B and S cable in black and red, 50-8 copper lugs, and 12mm hose for the vent run, all of which we stock. You will also need a polyurethane sealant such as Sikaflex for the lid, which we do not stock.

Q: Which hose do I need for the vent?
A 12mm outside diameter hose, which is the Black Coil in our hose tubing listing. Push-fit fittings size on the outside diameter of the tube, so a 12mm internal bore vinyl hose is too large and will not seat.

Q: What is it made from?
3mm aluminium, powder coated black. Aluminium rather than steel means it will not rust where condensation collects.

Q: Can I install it myself?
The compartment itself bolts down through the mounting feet. The wiring and the finished installation should be done by a competent person to meet AS/NZS 3001.2:2022, and the lid seal needs to be done properly for the enclosure to work as intended.
