00 to 8 B&S single core battery and starter cable, sold per metre. Oxygen-free copper conductor with V90 PVC insulation, built for dual-battery systems, starter motor circuits, inverter feeds, DC-DC charger runs and other high-current 12V and 24V DC applications.

Genuine Australian-made cable, manufactured to AS/NZS 1125 (conductor) and AS/NZS 3808 (insulation). Pick your gauge from the variant selector below, and choose black or red sheath for polarity.

Size guide

Amp ratings are continuous current at 30°C ambient. Undersizing the cable for your current draw and run length causes voltage drop, heat and eventually insulation failure, when in doubt, step up a size.

B&S size Area Amp rating Common uses
00 B&S 64.15mm² 292A Large inverters, diesel engine starting, primary dual-battery link, high-power winches
0 B&S 49.00mm² 246A Starter motor circuits, battery-to-battery links, diesel starting
1 B&S 39.55mm² 210A Large winches, heavy battery interconnects
3 B&S 26.45mm² 168A Battery bank interconnects, high-current charging
6 B&S 13.5mm² 103A Lithium/DC-DC charging circuits, dual-battery systems
8 B&S 7.71mm² 74A Dual-battery Anderson plug leads, brake controller feeds

⚠ Check before ordering: Winches, large inverters and starter motors can draw 200A or more. Only 1, 0 and 00 B&S in this range are rated for that, 3, 6 and 8 B&S will overheat and are not safe for winch or starter-motor wiring. Match the gauge to your actual current draw and cable run length, not just what looks thick enough.

You'll also need: this listing is cable only, no lugs, terminals or heat shrink included.

Need twin core instead? Running a fixed positive/negative pair together (fridge, inverter feed)? Our twin core B&S cable bundles both conductors in one sheath.

  • Oxygen-free copper, low-resistance corrosion-resistant conductor
  • V90 PVC insulation, 90°C rated to AS/NZS 3808
  • Australian made, to AS/NZS 1125 and AS/NZS 3808
  • 6 sizes stocked, 00 through 8 B&S
  • Sold per metre, black or red sheath

Single core battery and starter cable for 12V and 24V DC systems, sold per metre.
Dual-battery systems, starter motor circuits, inverter and DC-DC charger feeds
Large winches (1, 0 and 00 B&S only, 200A+ circuits need this gauge or heavier)
Winch or starter-motor circuits using 3, 6 or 8 B&S, undersized, will overheat
Mains AC wiring, this is DC automotive/marine cable, not AC-rated

Q: What does B&S actually mean?
B&S stands for Brown & Sharpe, the older wire-gauge system still used for heavy-duty battery and starter cable in Australia, the same idea as AWG, just a different numbering scale. Lower B&S numbers mean thicker cable and higher current capacity: 00 B&S is the heaviest cable in this range, 8 B&S the thinnest.

Q: What size do I need for a winch?
Winches typically draw well over 200A. Of the sizes stocked here, only 1, 0 and 00 B&S carry enough current for winch wiring (rated 210A, 246A and 292A). 3, 6 and 8 B&S are undersized for a winch circuit and will overheat, use them for lower-current jobs like dual-battery Anderson leads or DC-DC charger feeds instead.

Q: What's the difference between single core and twin core B&S cable?
Single core is one insulated conductor, you run a separate positive and negative cable, each with its own lug. Twin core bundles a red positive and black negative conductor inside one outer sheath, which suits a fixed run like a fridge or inverter feed where both wires travel together. For a starter or winch lead, or a run where each polarity terminates in a different place, single core is the right pick, see our twin core B&S cable if you want the red/black pair in one sheath.

Q: Does this cable come with lugs or terminals?
No, this listing is cable only, sold per metre. You'll need cable lugs sized to your chosen B&S gauge and a heavy-duty crimper to terminate it, plus heat shrink to weatherproof the join, see what you'll also need below.

Q: Is this cable rated for 24V systems as well as 12V?
Yes, it's rated for both 12V and 24V DC systems, common across 4WD, caravan, truck and marine setups.

Q: What conductor and insulation does this cable use?
Oxygen-free copper conductor to AS/NZS 1125, insulated with V90 PVC to AS/NZS 3808, rated to 90°C.

Q: How do I work out what length I can run before voltage drop becomes a problem?
Voltage drop increases with both current draw and cable length. As a rule of thumb, keep the total run (there and back) under about 5% voltage drop, roughly 0.6V on a 12V system. Longer runs need a heavier gauge than the amp rating alone suggests, so step up a size if your cable run is more than a couple of metres.

Q: Can I use B&S cable for marine or truck 24V systems?
Yes, oxygen-free copper battery and starter cable of this type is standard across 4WD, caravan, truck and marine 12V/24V DC systems, not just cars.

Q: Is this cable genuinely Australian made?
Yes, this is genuine Australian-made battery and starter cable, manufactured to AS/NZS 1125 and AS/NZS 3808.

Q: How do the B&S sizes compare?
00 B&S is the heaviest at 292A, stepping down through 0 (246A), 1 (210A), 3 (168A) and 6 (103A) to 8 B&S at 74A. Pick the gauge based on your circuit's current draw and cable run length, see the size guide above for the full breakdown.
