This 2m Cat6 UTP patch cord connects network equipment — router, switch, patch panel, PC or NAS — over Category 6 unshielded twisted-pair cable. It supports Gigabit Ethernet speeds and is backward compatible with Cat5e networks.

24 AWG bare copper conductors run under a PVC outer sheath, wired to the T568B standard, with moulded RJ45 connectors and strain relief on both ends.

Q: What is the length of this patch cord?

A: This one is 2 metres long. We also stock 1m and 5m versions if you need a different length.

Q: What connectors does it have?

A: RJ45 on both ends, wired to the T568B standard — plug straight into any standard Ethernet port.

Q: What does "Cat6" actually mean, and do I need it over Cat5e?

A: Cat6 is a cabling standard (ANSI/TIA-568-C.2) with tighter twist rates and better isolation between wire pairs than Cat5e, so it handles Gigabit Ethernet more reliably over longer runs and has headroom for faster speeds on shorter cables. For a modem-to-router hop a metre apart, Cat5e is fine — Cat6 earns its keep on longer runs, near electrically noisy equipment, or if you want headroom for a future upgrade.

Q: Is this cable shielded?

A: No — this is UTP (unshielded twisted pair), the standard choice for home, office and workshop runs. If you're running cable alongside high-voltage wiring or heavy machinery, a shielded (S/FTP) cable handles interference better.
