A die-cast metal 7-pin large round trailer plug that mates with the AS2513 large round socket on the tow vehicle. Carries tail, stop, left and right turn, reverse and electric brake circuits plus ground on seven screw-terminal brass pins behind a hinged lid. Fits caravans, box trailers, car carriers, boat trailers and horse floats towed by any AU-wired tow vehicle.

The housing is die-cast metal with a sprung weather lid at the mouth and a threaded cable gland at the rear that clamps onto cables between 9.2mm and 11.5mm. Overall length is 95mm with a 36mm diameter body. Each of the seven pins terminates on a screw contact inside the shell, so a wire goes in, gets clamped under the screw, and the shell closes down over the lot.

AS2513 pin 5 is electric brakes on an AU wiring loom. The same pin position on a European ISO 1724 plug carries position (parking) lights. Wiring an AS2513 plug to a vehicle running ISO 1724 colours puts brake current into the parking-light circuit and vice versa, so match the pin table on both sides before plugging in. Rate the ground wire 2.5mm² and the signal wires 1.5mm² minimum per AS2513.

Related in our range

  • Die-cast housing — survives towball spray and tray impact
  • Sprung weather lid — keeps the mouth dry when unplugged
  • 7 screw terminals — direct wire clamp, no soldering
  • Brass contacts — rated 30A per pole across all seven
  • AS2513 pattern — fits any AU large-round 7-pin socket

AS2513 large round 7-pin plug for AU-wired trailers
Works with any AS2513 large round metal or plastic trailer socket
Does not fit small round metal 7-pin sockets (different diameter)
Does not fit 7-pin or 12-pin flat sockets
Does not match European ISO 1724 wiring (pin 5 conflict: brakes vs lights)

Q: What does AS2513 actually mean?
A: AS2513-1982 is the Australian Standard that sets the pin layout for large-round 7-pin trailer connectors. It locks pin 5 as the electric-brake circuit and defines the physical pin pattern so any AS2513 plug mates with any AS2513 socket on an AU vehicle.

Q: Which socket does this plug fit?
A: Any large round 7-pin AS2513 socket, including our own [7-pin-large-round-metal-trailer-socket], every Narva, Hella, Baxters, Powerhouse and generic AU hardware-store equivalent, and the factory sockets fitted on AU-market tow bars.

Q: What is the current rating?
A: 30A per pole across all seven pins (brass contacts, screw terminated). That carries normal tail, stop, turn, reverse and electric-brake circuits comfortably. Don't run winch, inverter or house-battery feeds through a trailer connector.

Q: Will this fit a small round 7-pin socket?
A: No. The large round body is physically bigger than the small round pattern and will not engage. If the tow vehicle has a small round socket, use [trailer-connector-7-pin-small-round-metal-socket] instead or run an adaptor.

Q: Does this work with European 7-pin plugs?
A: No. European 7-pin trailers use ISO 1724, where pin 5 is position (parking) lights. On AS2513 pin 5 is electric brakes. Plug one into the other and brake current ends up in the parking-light circuit, which keeps the trailer brakes on whenever the lights are on. Match standards on both sides.

Q: What cable size does it accept?
A: The rear gland takes cable between 9.2mm and 11.5mm outside diameter. That covers standard 7-core trailer cable (3mm²+4mm² or 6×1.5mm²+2.5mm²) and most sheathed 7-conductor looms.

Q: Do I need a specific cable?
A: Any 7-core trailer cable sheathed between 9.2mm and 11.5mm will fit. Inside, run 1.5mm² minimum on signal lines (pins 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7) and 2.5mm² minimum on pin 3 (ground) per AS2513.

Q: What is the IP rating?
A: IP44. That is splashproof: rain, towball spray, puddle splash. It is not submersible, so don't dunk the plug under water or run the trailer through a wading crossing with the plug unseated.

Q: How do I wire it?
A: Open the back cap, slide the cable through the gland, strip each conductor and clamp it under its pin's screw terminal following the AS2513 colour code (yellow left-turn pin 1, black reverse pin 2, white ground pin 3, green right-turn pin 4, blue brakes pin 5, red stop pin 6, brown tail pin 7). Reassemble, tighten the gland and plug in to test.

Q: What else do I need?
A: The matching socket on the tow vehicle: [7-pin-large-round-metal-trailer-socket]. Plus 7-core trailer cable and crimp terminals or screw-terminal shoe lugs for the trailer end.
