A 6V heavy-duty cranking battery that fires big diesel engines in trucks, buses and heavy equipment. Fits short-haul rigs, hiab cranes, tail-lift trucks, excavators, loaders and tractors where two 6V batteries wire in series to make 12V, or where the vehicle's own electrical system is 6V. Carry handles sit flush with the top so one tech can lift it in and out without a strap.

Thicker lead plates and Platelock polyester matting hold the active material in place through sustained vibration from rough-road and off-road work. The case is 304 by 171 by 201mm, 222mm over the terminals, and the whole thing weighs 21.0 kg. Terminals are standard SAE posts in the usual STD layout. Lead-acid wet construction with low-maintenance caps for the occasional electrolyte top-up.

This is a 6V cranking battery, not a deep-cycle or auxiliary. It needs a second matched 6V in series to run a 12V vehicle, and it will not run house loads for days. Pair it with a dedicated deep-cycle for that. Check the vehicle manual before swapping an original pair, especially on older European or American trucks where the OEM polarity layout can differ.

Mount the battery upright in the OEM tray with the terminals facing the correct side for your harness. If pairing in series to make 12V, both batteries must be the same age, same state of charge and same part number. Torque the clamp bolts to the manufacturer's spec and smear a thin coat of petroleum jelly on the posts to slow corrosion.

Vent the installation space. This is a flooded wet-cell, not a sealed AGM, so it needs airflow and must sit upright. Never install this battery inside a sealed cabin or boot without a vent line.

Charge to full before first use with a dedicated truck-grade charger (not a car-grade charger). After every drive, check the electrolyte level through the inspection caps and top up with distilled water only if the plates are showing.

6V heavy-duty cranking battery for series-pair 12V installs or single 6V systems
Short-haul and medium-haul trucks, buses, hiab cranes, tail-lift delivery vehicles
Heavy equipment — excavators, wheel loaders, tractors, cherry pickers
OEM series-pair installs — two 6V batteries wired in series to make 12V
Not for 12V single-battery vehicles — this is a 6V unit, pair required for 12V
Not for deep-cycle house loads — cranking battery only; pair with a dedicated deep-cycle AGM or lithium
Not for sealed cabin or boot install — flooded wet-cell, needs vented upright mount

Q: Why is this battery 6V when my truck is 12V?
Many commercial trucks, buses and heavy-equipment vehicles run two 6V batteries wired in series to make 12V. The OEM setup uses two matched 6V units rather than one 12V battery because the thicker plates and larger cases of a 6V deliver more cranking amps and vibration resistance for the same footprint. If your original setup had two batteries sitting side by side with a cable linking them, you need two of these.

Q: Can I use this as a single battery in a 12V vehicle?
No. This is 6V, it will not start a 12V engine on its own. For a 12V heavy-duty truck battery, see the Century N150 MF (1000CCA, 155Ah) which fits similar applications.

Q: What does CCA actually mean?
Cold Cranking Amps. It is the current the battery can deliver for 30 seconds at minus 18°C while holding above 7.2V. 800 CCA means it can push 800 amps into a cold starter motor without collapsing, enough to crank big diesel engines in Australian winter conditions.

Q: What does RC (Reserve Capacity) mean?
Reserve Capacity is how long the battery can supply 25 amps before dropping below 10.5V. 280 minutes means it will run the vehicle's lights, radio and ignition for over 4 hours if the alternator fails. Higher RC is better for commercial duty.

Q: Can this be used as a deep-cycle house battery?
No. This is a cranking battery with thick starting plates, designed for short high-current bursts to fire the engine. It will not survive repeated deep discharges from running a fridge, inverter or lights overnight. For auxiliary house loads pair your 6V series setup with a dedicated deep-cycle AGM or lithium.

Q: Does it need to be matched to the other battery in my series pair?
Yes. Both batteries must be the same part number, same age, same state of charge. Mixing an old battery with a new one will drag the new one down and shorten both their lives. Replace them as a pair, not one at a time.

Q: What is Platelock and why does it matter?
Platelock is Century's name for the polyester matting that pins the active material against the lead plates. In a vibration-heavy environment (rough roads, off-road, machinery), the active material can shake loose from standard plates and settle at the bottom, shorting cells. Platelock stops that from happening.

Q: Is this a sealed maintenance-free battery?
No. This is a flooded wet-cell with removable caps for topping up the electrolyte. Low maintenance means you check the levels every few months and top up with distilled water if the plates are exposed, rather than monthly checks on an old-style open-vent battery. It still needs to be installed upright with ventilation, never sealed inside a cabin.

Q: What vehicles typically use the Century 26?
Short-haul and medium-haul trucks, buses, hiab-crane trucks, tail-lift delivery vehicles, cherry pickers, excavators, wheel loaders, tractors. Anywhere the OEM specified a pair of 6V batteries wired in series for cranking. If your vehicle manual lists battery type 26 or shows a series-pair layout, this is the replacement.

Q: What warranty does it come with?
12 months against manufacturing defects. If a cell drops out early or the case cracks under normal use, bring it in. Full terms live in our warranty policy. Commercial use is covered the same as private use.
