This is a machined size-16 solid pin contact for the Deutsch DT connector family, sized for 18-16 AWG wire (roughly 0.8 to 1.5 mm²). The pin end mates with a matching SZ16 solid socket fitted to the other half of the connector pair.

The contact is machined from copper alloy and nickel-plated for corrosion resistance. Cold-headed pin design keeps the tip concentric with the wire barrel and stops the pin bending on repeated mate cycles in the connector body. Rated to around 13 A per contact continuous in a sealed DT housing.

Fit one per cavity on the male half of the plug pair. Use a size-16 solid-contact crimp tool sized for the wire range on the tool wheel, and confirm the crimp seats to the correct depth before pushing the contact home into the cavity. Retention comes from the shoulder locking behind the internal spring finger in the housing, not from the crimp itself.

Cavity plugs for unused positions

  • Solid pin — Cold-headed for long-term concentricity and consistent mate force
  • Nickel plating — Corrosion resistance in wet or salt environments
  • Closed-entry design — Protects the socket spring on the mating half
  • SZ16 cavity — Fits any Deutsch DT-family 16-size cavity
  • Continuous rating — Around 13 A per contact in a sealed housing
  • Single-use crimp — Fresh contact per install for reliable retention

Q: What is a size-16 (SZ16) contact?
Size-16 is the Deutsch DT connector family's standard mid-range contact size. It fits any DT cavity marked 16 and covers wire from about 20 AWG up to 14 AWG depending on which specific contact you fit. This one is sized for 18-16 AWG.

Q: What does the pin half do?
A pin is the male contact. It sits inside a male plug body and pushes into a matching socket in the mating half of the connector pair.

Q: What is a solid contact?
A solid contact is machined from a single piece of copper alloy, as distinct from a stamped-and-formed contact which is folded from sheet metal. Solid pins hold shape better and stay concentric over repeated mate cycles.

Q: What crimp tool do I need?
A size-16 Deutsch solid-contact crimp tool with an 18-16 AWG wheel setting. Deutsch DT solid contacts crimp with a 4-indent square die, not the M-crimp shape used for open-barrel terminals.

Q: Can I reuse a contact after crimping?
No. Crimping cold-works the copper alloy at the contact-to-wire interface, and re-crimping loses grip. Fit a fresh contact if the wire needs to be repositioned.

Q: Is the plating nickel or gold?
Nickel. Nickel is the standard finish for automotive DT contacts and resists corrosion in vehicle service. Gold-plated contacts exist for low-current signal work but are a specialist item.

Q: What voltage does the contact carry?
The contact itself does not have a working-voltage limit at the levels DT connectors run. The overall assembly is rated for 12, 24 and 48 V DC systems. Not for 240 V AC.

Q: Why is the pin rated 13 A when the wire can carry more?
Contact rating is the current the pin-and-socket junction can pass continuously without excessive heating, and it caps out below the wire's own rating in most cases. Fit fusing to the contact's rating, not the wire's.

Q: Do I need to buy a matching socket?
Yes. This is one half of a mating pair. See Mates with above for the correct socket.
