25A DC-DC + MPPT SOLAR

Dual input — alternator and MPPT solar controller in one in-cabin unit.

GREEN POWER PRIORITY

Solar takes precedence over the alternator when the panels are producing — saves fuel.

LITHIUM AND AGM READY

Six charge profiles cover AGM, gel, calcium, standard lead-acid, LiFePO4 and custom.

HARDWIRED IGNITION TRIGGER

Our workshop hardwires an ignition trigger on smart-alternator vehicles and multi-charger setups so all chargers only run when the vehicle is running.

2 YEAR REDARC WARRANTY

Backed by 2 years direct from Redarc. Repair or replacement in accordance with Redarc's warranty policy.

A 12V 25A DC-DC charger with a built-in MPPT solar regulator. Charges a 12V house or auxiliary battery bank from the vehicle alternator, from a solar panel, or from both at the same time, with Green Power Priority running solar first to reduce alternator load. Potted and sealed for under-bonnet install, and happy to live in a cabin, service body or caravan bulkhead as well.

Six charge profiles cover AGM, gel, calcium content, standard lead-acid, LiFePO4 lithium and a custom profile set at install. The case is 165mm long, 120mm wide and 37mm high at 1 kg, with bare-wire input and output tails. The 9 to 32V input range runs on 12V or 24V vehicles while the output stays 12V.

Sized for 12V banks between roughly 75Ah and 200Ah. For a 24V output use the BCDC2420 instead. Our workshop hardwires an ignition trigger from switched 12V on smart-alternator vehicles and on any build with more than one BCDC, so every charger only runs while the engine is running.

What sets it apart

  • Dual input charging — alternator and solar run at the same time
  • Green Power Priority — solar does the work before the alternator kicks in
  • Six charge profiles — AGM, gel, calcium, lead-acid, LiFePO4 and custom
  • Potted construction — sealed against heat, vibration and water for engine bay use
  • Fanless and silent — convection-cooled, no moving parts
  • Smart-alternator ready — ignition trigger wiring hardwired by our workshop
  • Made in Lonsdale — designed, built and tested by Redarc in South Australia

Mounting and install

Potted construction means this unit mounts under the bonnet, in a cabin, in a service body or in a caravan bulkhead. Fuse the input with a 40A fuse at the start battery (REDARC FK40 recommended) and the output with a 40A fuse at the auxiliary battery. Run 6 B&S cable between batteries up to 2m, step up to 4 B&S beyond that.

The MPPT solar input accepts fixed or portable panels producing 9 to 32V DC. Pair with roughly 150 to 200W of panel for a 25A charger. On smart-alternator vehicles and any build with more than one BCDC, hardwire the yellow ignition trigger wire to switched 12V from the ignition circuit so the charger only runs while the vehicle is running.

  • Potted construction — sealed for under-bonnet heat and water
  • Fanless and silent — convection-cooled with no moving parts
  • Smart-alternator ready — ignition trigger wiring supported

Potted construction means this unit mounts under the bonnet, in a cabin, in a service body or in a caravan bulkhead. Fuse the input with a 40A fuse at the start battery (REDARC FK40 recommended) and the output with a 40A fuse at the auxiliary battery. Run 6 B&S cable between batteries up to 2m, step up to 4 B&S for longer runs.

The MPPT solar input accepts fixed or portable panels producing 9 to 32V DC. Pair with roughly 150 to 200W of panel for a 25A charger. Larger panels are fine as long as they stay inside the voltage window.

On smart-alternator vehicles and any build with more than one BCDC in the chain, hardwire the yellow ignition trigger wire to switched 12V from the ignition circuit so the charger only runs when the vehicle is running. Set the charge profile at install with the selector cable.

Potted construction suits engine-bay install or in-cabin / canopy install
9-32V input runs on 12V or 24V vehicles while output stays 12V
Smart-alternator and multi-charger builds (hardwire ignition trigger)
CRITICAL: for a 24V auxiliary battery bank use the BCDC2420 instead

Q: What does DC-DC charger actually mean?
A: A DC-DC charger takes the raw voltage from your vehicle alternator (anywhere between 9 and 32V DC) and runs it through a controlled multi-stage charge curve into your auxiliary battery. It solves two problems at once: it isolates the aux battery from the start battery so you can't flatten the one you need to start the engine, and it delivers the correct voltage profile for whichever battery chemistry you've chosen.

Q: What's the difference between the DC-DC input and the MPPT solar input?
A: This charger has both, running at the same time. The DC-DC side pulls from the vehicle alternator when driving. The MPPT solar side pulls from a fixed or portable panel when parked or driving. Green Power Priority runs the solar side first when both are connected, so solar power does the work before the alternator kicks in.

Q: What does MPPT mean?
A: Maximum Power Point Tracking. An MPPT regulator continuously finds the voltage and current combination that squeezes the most power out of your solar panel in the current conditions, then converts it to the voltage your battery needs. In practice an MPPT regulator pulls 20-30% more usable power from the same panel than a basic PWM regulator.

Q: What battery chemistries does it support?
A: AGM, gel, calcium content, standard lead-acid, LiFePO4 lithium, and a custom profile. Set the profile at install time with the selector cable. The LiFePO4 profile uses the correct lithium charge curve, so this charger is safe for a lithium bank.

Q: Can I install this under the bonnet, or does it have to be in the cabin?
A: Both work. The Classic range is potted inside the case, which means the internal electronics are sealed against heat, vibration and water. That makes it tough enough for engine bay installation. It also installs happily in a cabin, service body, caravan bulkhead or canopy. The Core range (not this one) is the in-cabin only version.

Q: What size solar panel can I connect?
A: The MPPT solar input accepts panels or arrays producing 9 to 32V DC. A 25A charger pairs well with roughly 150 to 200W of panel. Larger arrays are fine as long as they stay inside the voltage window.

Q: Does it work with smart-alternator vehicles?
A: Yes. Our workshop hardwires an ignition trigger wire to switched 12V on smart-alternator vehicles (stop-start or variable-voltage alternator) and on any build with more than one BCDC in the same chain, so every charger only runs when the vehicle is running. Without that trigger, a smart alternator can drop its output voltage below the charger's switch-on threshold and the charger will cycle on and off.

Q: What size cable and fuses do I need?
A: Fuse the input at the start battery with a 40A fuse (REDARC FK40 recommended) and the output at the auxiliary battery with a 40A fuse. Run 6 B&S cable between batteries up to 2m, step up to 4 B&S for longer runs.

Q: How big a battery can it charge?
A: Sized for 12V battery banks between roughly 75Ah and 200Ah. Smaller banks charge faster; larger banks take longer and lose some of the fast-recharge benefit of a 25A charger. For bigger banks the BCDC Classic50 (BCDC1250D) is a better fit.

Q: What's the warranty?
A: 2 years, direct from Redarc. Repair or replacement in line with Redarc's warranty policy.
