50A DC-DC + MPPT SOLAR

Dual input — alternator and MPPT solar controller in one in-cabin unit.

GREEN POWER PRIORITY

Solar takes precedence over the alternator when the panels are producing — saves fuel.

LITHIUM AND AGM READY

Six charge profiles cover AGM, gel, calcium, standard lead-acid, LiFePO4 and custom.

HARDWIRED IGNITION TRIGGER

Our workshop hardwires an ignition trigger on smart-alternator vehicles and multi-charger setups so all chargers only run when the vehicle is running.

2 YEAR REDARC WARRANTY

Backed by 2 years direct from Redarc. Repair or replacement in accordance with Redarc's warranty policy.

A 50A dual-input charger that fills a 12V auxiliary battery from the vehicle alternator and a solar panel at the same time. Runs on 12V or 24V vehicles with a 9 to 32V input range, and matches lead-acid, calcium, gel, AGM or LiFePO4 battery banks. Fits under the bonnet, in the cabin, or inside caravan, canopy and camper-trailer bays.

The chassis is 165 by 120 by 37mm, weighs 1 kg, and sits fanless with no moving parts to fail. Four-stage charging with an added SoftStart stage finishes at 15.3V bulk, and Green Power Priority leans on solar first to spare the alternator and the fuel bill. The MPPT solar regulator accepts panels on a 9 to 32V input, and all connections are bare-wire through the chassis terminals.

The output stays at 12V even when running from a 24V vehicle, so pair it with a 12V bank only. Fuse both input and output at 60A with FK60 kits or equivalent MIDI holders. On late-model vehicles with stop-start or variable-voltage alternators our workshop always hardwires an ignition trigger so the charger runs only when the engine does.

What sets it apart

Dual input — alternator and solar at once

Green Power Priority — solar leads, alternator fills

50A output — top of Redarc's Classic range

Five chemistries — lead-acid, calcium, gel, AGM, LiFePO4

9 to 32V input — runs on 12V or 24V vehicles

Fanless and sealed — silent, no moving parts

In-vehicle rated — bonnet, cabin or canopy install

Built in Lonsdale — Redarc's SA factory

Max charging voltage: 15.3V

Output power: 750W

Chemistries: 5 profiles

Inputs

DC input: 9-32V DC

Solar input: 9-32V MPPT

Input fuse: 60A (FK60)

Output fuse: 60A (FK60)

Control and monitoring

Charge stages: 4 + SoftStart

Green Power Priority: Solar first

Smart alternator: Hardwired trigger

Protection and build

Standby current: <8mA

No-load current: <100mA

Operating temp: -20°C to 80°C

Cooling: Fanless

Terminals: Bare wire

Length: 165mm

Width: 120mm

Height: 37mm

Weight: 1 kg

Mount under the bonnet, inside the cabin, in a service body, in a canopy, or on a caravan bulkhead. Pre-drilled mounting feet on the chassis take an M6 bolt. Keep away from standing water and from the exhaust manifold's radiant heat; ambient up to 80°C is fine.

Fuse the input and output at 60A each with FK60 kits or equivalent MIDI fuse holders. Use 6 B&S (13.5mm²) cable for most 50A installs under 4 metres from the start battery; step up to 4 B&S (21mm²) on longer runs.

On late-model vehicles with stop-start or variable-voltage smart alternators, and on any build with more than one BCDC (vehicle plus caravan, for example), hardwire the blue ignition trigger wire so the charger only runs when the engine is running. Our workshop always runs this trigger as standard.

Set the correct battery chemistry at install (lead-acid, calcium, gel, AGM or LiFePO4) using the SET button on the end of the charger. Download the current manual below for full install diagrams.

Dual-input DC-DC charger for 12V auxiliary batteries. Works on 12V or 24V vehicles with a 9-32V input, feeding a 12V battery bank only.
Fits 4WDs, utes, caravans, camper trailers, canopies and motorhomes
Charges from alternator, solar, or both at once
Rated for engine bay, cabin or canopy install
CRITICAL: Not for 24V house-battery systems — output is 12V only; use the Redarc BCDC2420 for 24V output
CRITICAL: Not a 24V-input vehicle starter charger — upper input ceiling is 32V

Q: What does DC-DC actually mean?
A: A DC-DC charger steps the vehicle's rough 12 to 14V alternator output up to the regulated bulk voltage a battery needs for a proper multi-stage charge. Without one, an auxiliary battery only sees around 13.8V and never finishes charging; with one, each chemistry gets its correct profile and voltage.

Q: What does MPPT actually mean?
A: Maximum Power Point Tracking. The regulator continuously finds the panel's best working voltage so you harvest the most power the panel can produce in the current light and temperature. A 100W panel on an MPPT regulator pulls noticeably more into the battery than the same panel on an older PWM regulator.

Q: What does Green Power Priority actually mean?
A: When both the vehicle alternator and a connected solar panel can supply current, the charger pulls from solar first and only taps the alternator when solar can't meet the demand. That reduces alternator load and saves fuel while driving on a sunny day.

Q: What chemistries does it support?
A: Five profiles: standard lead-acid, calcium, gel, AGM, and LiFePO4 lithium. Set the correct profile at install so each chemistry sees its right absorption and float voltages.

Q: Can I run it on a 24V vehicle?
A: Yes. The 9 to 32V input accepts both 12V and 24V vehicle systems. The output is always 12V, so this unit is only for a 12V auxiliary battery bank. For a 24V battery bank, use the Redarc BCDC2420 instead.

Q: What size battery bank suits a 50A charger?
A: Redarc recommends the 50A Classic for banks over 200Ah, with sensible maximums around 400Ah. Smaller banks (75 to 200Ah) are better paired with the 25A or 40A Classic to avoid overworking a small battery.

Q: Does it work with smart alternators?
A: Yes. Our workshop hardwires an ignition trigger to the charger on smart-alternator vehicles and on any build with more than one BCDC (for example a BCDC in the tow vehicle plus a second BCDC in the caravan), so every charger runs only when the engine is running.

Q: What size solar panel can I connect?
A: The MPPT solar input accepts panels in the 9 to 32V DC range. Panel wattage depends on your battery bank size and daily use; our workshop usually pairs a 50A Classic with around 400W of solar on a touring build.

Q: Where can I mount it?
A: Under the bonnet, inside the cabin, in a service body, in a canopy, or on a caravan bulkhead. The Classic range is rated for in-vehicle installation at ambient temperatures up to 80°C. Keep it out of standing water.

Q: What cable size from the start battery?
A: Our workshop uses 6 B&S (13.5mm²) for most 50A installs under 4 metres. Step up to 4 B&S (21mm²) on longer runs where voltage drop would otherwise cost you charge rate.

Q: How long is the warranty?
A: 2 years direct from Redarc against manufacturing defects.
