MIDI bolt-down cartridge fuses across the full 30A to 150A range. Also called AMI, this is the standard heavy-DC fuse for the gap between the 30A blade-fuse ceiling and the MEGA/ANL range that starts around 200A. The fuse element sits inside a nylon and glass-fibre body with two tin-plated eyelet terminals that bolt into a matching MIDI holder or straight to a bus bar.

The semi-time-delay characteristic is what makes MIDI the right fit for real-world DC loads: it rides brief inrush spikes without opening, then clears a sustained fault within seconds. Wrong for a winch or a large inverter (both need higher-rated fuses on a dedicated pathway), right for DC-DC chargers, auxiliary trunks, house-battery mains and single heavy accessory feeds.

Size guide

Every variant is the same MIDI/AMI physical size (41mm long, with 30mm bolt-hole centres on M5 studs). Pick the amperage by sizing to the smallest cable in the circuit, or by matching the blown fuse you are replacing.

Amperage Typical cable Typical circuit
30A 3mm to 4mm Single heavy accessory feed above blade-fuse ceiling
40A 4mm Small DC-DC charger, LED driving-light bank
50A 6mm to 6 B&S DC-DC charger trunk feed
60A 6 B&S DC-DC 50A, auxiliary bus-bar trunk
70A 6 B&S Isolator relay, mid-size bus-bar trunk
80A 8 B&S House-battery to fuse-block mains
100A 8 B&S to 4 B&S Larger house-battery mains, mid inverter
125A 4 B&S Alternator-to-house mains (mid draw)
150A 2 B&S Alternator-to-house mains (heavy draw)

Above 150A step up to MEGA or ANL, and for winches or 2000W-plus inverters use Class T on a dedicated pathway.

Q: What is a MIDI fuse?
A bolt-down cartridge fuse built for heavier DC circuits than a blade fuse can handle. Also called AMI. The fuse element is enclosed in a nylon/glass-fibre body with two eyelet terminals that bolt into a matching MIDI holder or straight to a bus bar. The MIDI family covers 30A to 200A.

Q: What does semi-time-delay mean?
The fuse tolerates a brief current spike (the inrush a compressor or fridge draws on start-up) before opening the circuit. A fast-acting fuse would open on the spike alone. Semi-delay lets normal loads start and clears real faults within seconds.

Q: Can I use a MIDI to protect a winch?
No. Winches draw 200 to 500A under load, above the top of the MIDI range. Use an ANL, Class T or MEGA fuse rated 300 to 500A on a dedicated high-current pathway from the battery.

Q: What circuits do MIDI fuses actually suit?
DC-DC charger feeds (30 to 60A), auxiliary bus-bar trunks (50 to 100A), house-battery to fuse-block mains (60 to 150A), small inverters under about 1500W, and single-item accessory feeds that draw above the blade-fuse ceiling of 30A.

Q: Which amperage should I pick?
Size the fuse to the smallest cable in the circuit. Rough guide for common Australian cable sizes: 6mm B&S to 50A, 8 B&S to 90A, 4 B&S to 120A, 2 B&S to 150A. If in doubt, size down rather than up. A fuse that trips is doing its job.

Q: Will a MIDI work on a 48V system?
Not this one. This is a 32V DC rated fuse. For a 48V circuit, use a MIDI or MEGA rated to 58V DC (many manufacturers publish both). Fitting a 32V fuse to a 48V circuit is a licence-risk error, the fuse may not clear a fault cleanly.

Q: What is the difference between MIDI and MEGA?
Both are bolt-down cartridge fuses, but MEGA is physically larger and rated higher (40A to 500A commonly). If you need above 150 to 200A, step up to MEGA. If your circuit is at or below 150A, MIDI is smaller and cheaper.

Q: What holder does this fit?
Any standard single or twin MIDI/AMI fuse holder. Bolt-hole spacing on the fuse eyelets is the international MIDI/AMI standard, not brand-specific.
