A 360W isolated DC-DC charger that takes 24V input from a truck, bus or marine alternator and charges a 12V auxiliary battery at up to 30A. Galvanic isolation separates the input and output chassis grounds so the 12V service circuit sits on its own ground rail. Fits heavy-vehicle service builds, bus conversions, marine house banks and 24V agricultural rigs feeding a 12V accessory system.

Housed in a 130 × 186 × 80mm aluminium chassis with screw terminals for in-line wiring and a fanless passive cooling design. Weighs 1.9 kg. Charges via an adaptive 3-stage algorithm (bulk, absorption, float) with 8 preprogrammed battery presets covering AGM, gel, lead-acid and LiFePO4. Built-in Bluetooth pairs with the VictronConnect app for monitoring, configuration and firmware updates.

Not protected against reverse polarity. Reversing the input will damage the unit permanently, so fuse both input and output circuits at the source and use at least 6mm² wiring. The charger is 24V input only; do not install on a 12V alternator or a 48V system.

What sets it apart

24V to 12V step-down — purpose-built for 24V vehicle systems feeding a 12V house circuit.

Galvanic isolation — separate input and output ground rails for safe mixed-ground installs.

Bluetooth built in — monitor state and tweak settings from the VictronConnect app.

8 battery presets — one-tap profiles for AGM, gel, lead-acid and LiFePO4.

Adaptive 3-stage charging — bulk, absorption and float match the battery's actual state.

Engine-shutdown detection — stops the converter when the vehicle stops to protect the starter.

Parallel-capable — stack multiple units for higher combined current.

Fanless passive cooling — no moving parts, no fan noise, no maintenance.

Build

Dimensions: 186 × 80 × 130mm

Weight: 1.9 kg

Cooling: Fanless passive

IP rating: IP43 (terminals down)

Terminals: Screw

Width: 186mm

Depth: 80mm

Height: 130mm

Weight: 1.9kg

Mount the charger with the screw terminals pointing down. That orientation keeps water, dust and swarf from falling into the terminal block and holds the IP43 rating. Keep clear space above the top vents for passive airflow.

Fuse the 24V input close to the battery with a MIDI fuse sized for roughly a 25A continuous draw. Fuse the 12V output close to the service battery with a MIDI 40A. Use 6mm² wiring at minimum on both circuits so voltage drop does not pull the output out of regulation.

The unit is not reverse-polarity protected. Double-check the input polarity before connecting; reversing it will damage the charger permanently and is not covered by warranty.

Pair the charger with the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth to pick a battery preset, set absorption and float voltages, enable engine-shutdown detection and run firmware updates. The remote on/off terminal pair accepts either a hardwired switch or a signal from an ignition relay for automatic start-stop operation.

Q: What is a DC-DC charger and why do I need one?

A DC-DC charger steps the main-battery voltage up or down and holds it at the correct level to charge a separate service battery. The alternator alone pushes raw battery voltage, which under-charges lithium and overcharges some lead-acid types. The DC-DC charger regulates the voltage properly so the service battery lasts.

Q: What does ‘isolated’ actually mean?

Isolated means the input and output share no electrical ground. The 24V input and the 12V output each have their own +/- terminals. That lets the 12V house circuit sit on its own ground rail without back-feeding noise, voltage spikes or corrosion current into the vehicle 24V chassis.

Q: Will this run my 12V loads from a 24V truck battery?

Yes, this is the step-down direction. The charger takes 24V from the main vehicle battery and delivers a regulated 12V output at up to 30A continuous (360W). It is designed to charge a 12V auxiliary battery; use the service battery, not the charger output, to run the house loads.

Q: Is this reverse-polarity protected?

No. The Orion-Tr Smart is not protected against reverse polarity on the input. Reversing the 24V input polarity will damage the unit permanently, and the damage is not covered by warranty. Fit a correctly oriented fuse at the input and double-check polarity before powering the system up for the first time.

Q: Can I use this with lithium batteries?

Yes. The eight preset profiles cover LiFePO4 alongside AGM, gel and standard lead-acid, and the voltages are fully configurable from the VictronConnect app for any battery chemistry you need.

Q: Does it work with smart alternators?

Yes. The engine-shutdown detection reads voltage drop on the input and automatically pauses the charger when the engine stops, so a smart alternator that cycles under load does not drag the starter battery down.

Q: What is the difference between the isolated and non-isolated versions?

The isolated version keeps the input and output grounds separate, which is required for marine installs and recommended for commercial vehicles with ground-loop sensitive electronics. The non-isolated version shares a common ground, which is lighter and cheaper but can carry stray current. For a boat or a vehicle with sensitive electronics, pick isolated.

Q: Can I run two in parallel for 60A?

Yes. Multiple Orion-Tr Smart units can run in parallel without a cap on the unit count. Wire the inputs and outputs on common bus bars, size the input and output fuses for the combined current, and set each unit to the same battery preset so the charge profiles stay matched.

Q: What size cable and fuse do I need?

Minimum 6mm² cable on both input and output for a single unit at 30A continuous. Fit a MIDI fuse sized for roughly 25A at the 24V input close to the main battery, and a MIDI 40A at the 12V output close to the service battery. Upsize to 8mm² for runs longer than 2 metres.

Q: What is the warranty?

5-year Victron Energy limited warranty against manufacturing defects, direct from Victron. Keep the Elevate invoice as proof of purchase.
