40A IN-CABIN CORE DC-DC

No-fuss DC-DC without the extra features — built for the build that just needs a charger.

3-STAGE CHARGING

12V input, 12V output at up to 40A — multi-stage profile for a full charge.

LITHIUM AND AGM COMPATIBLE

Set the chemistry, install, forget — profiles for lithium and lead-acid banks.

IN-CABIN MOUNT

Designed to run cool in the living area or under a seat — no engine-bay heat exposure.

3 YEAR REDARC WARRANTY

Backed by 3 years direct from Redarc. Repair or replacement in accordance with Redarc's warranty policy.

A compact 40A DC-DC charger that runs a 12V auxiliary battery bank from the alternator and the sun at the same time. The dual input takes 9 to 32V from the start battery and 9 to 32V from a solar panel through the built-in MPPT, so the auxiliary charges whether you're driving, parked, or both. Fits under a seat, inside a canopy, in a caravan bulkhead or behind a drawer in a 4WD, campervan or ute.

Fanless and silent, 165 by 120 by 37mm, 900g. Bare-wire connections at the inputs and output, with a 60A fuse at each end (not supplied). Charges AGM, gel, calcium, standard lead-acid and LiFePO4 banks under multi-stage control. Operating temperature -15 to 80°C, nominal 600W output, max charging voltage 15.3V.

In-cabin only. The housing isn't sealed and isn't rated for engine-bay heat or dust. Our workshop hardwires an ignition trigger on late-model smart-alternator vehicles and on any build with more than one BCDC, so chargers only run when the engine's running. For a 24V house system, pick the BCDC2420 instead. For engine-bay mounting on a 12V build, pick the Classic40.

What sets it apart

Dual input charging — alternator and MPPT solar run at the same time

40A continuous output — 600W nominal, true 40A at the auxiliary

Fanless and silent — no fan noise, no dust intake, no moving parts

Five chemistry profiles — AGM, gel, calcium, lead-acid, LiFePO4

Smart-alternator ready — ignition-trigger input for stop-start vehicles

Compact in-cabin housing — 165 by 120 by 37mm, 900g

9 to 32V input — runs on 12V or 24V vehicles, output stays 12V

Australian designed and built — Lonsdale, SA, backed by Redarc's 2-year warranty

Build

Terminal type: Bare wire

Dimensions: 165×120×37mm

Weight: 900g

Length: 165mm

Width: 120mm

Height: 37mm

Weight: 900g

Location: in-cabin, inside a canopy, under a seat, in a camper bulkhead or inside a drawer. Not sealed, not for engine-bay use.

Terminals: bare-wire connections at both inputs (alternator and solar) and the output. Our workshop runs 6 B&S cable on the alternator feed in most installs and recommends no smaller.

Fuses: 60A fuse at each end (not supplied). Place within 300mm of the battery it protects. One close to the start battery on the alternator feed, one close to the auxiliary on the output.

Smart-alternator vehicles: hardwire an ignition trigger so the charger only runs with the engine on. Our workshop fits this to every late-model stop-start build and to any build with more than one BCDC.

Battery selection: set the chemistry switch to match the auxiliary chemistry before power-up (AGM, gel, calcium, lead-acid or LiFePO4).

12V auxiliary charging from a 12V or 24V vehicle, in-cabin only.
Suitable for 4WDs, campervans, caravans, utes, service bodies, canopies and camper trailers.
Compatible with 12V or 24V vehicles (input 9–32V); output is always 12V.
Not for engine-bay mounting — the housing isn't sealed. Pick the Classic40 for under-bonnet install.
Not for 24V auxiliary banks. For a 24V house system use the BCDC2420.

Q: What does a DC-DC charger actually do?
It sits between the start battery and an auxiliary battery, takes the vehicle's variable charging voltage, and feeds the auxiliary a stepped, chemistry-specific charge profile. Without one, modern smart alternators under-charge the auxiliary and short its life.

Q: What does MPPT solar input mean?
Maximum Power Point Tracking. The charger reads the solar panel's live voltage and current and extracts the most power it can at any moment, instead of running the panel at a fixed voltage. It's built in here, so you wire the panel straight to the charger, no separate solar controller.

Q: What's the difference between Core, Classic and Alpha?
Core is the compact in-cabin version with dual input (alternator + MPPT solar). Classic adds engine-bay sealing so it can mount under the bonnet. Alpha adds Bluetooth monitoring and status LEDs through the Redarc app.

Q: Does it have MPPT solar input?
Yes. 9–32V solar input, 9V switch-on, running simultaneously with the alternator feed.

Q: Which battery chemistries does it support?
AGM, gel, calcium, standard lead-acid and LiFePO4 lithium. Select the chemistry on the unit before you connect the auxiliary.

Q: Where do I mount it?
In-cabin. Under a seat, inside a camper bulkhead, in a service body or behind a drawer. Not in the engine bay — the Core isn't sealed, and heat and dust will shorten its life.

Q: Does it work with smart alternators?
Yes, with an ignition trigger wired in. Our workshop fits this to every late-model stop-start build and to any build with more than one BCDC, so chargers only run when the engine's running.

Q: What cable size to the start battery?
6 B&S is our workshop preference for the input run in most installs. Don't go smaller. A thinner cable voltage-drops under 40A and the charger thinks the start battery is flat.

Q: What fuse size does it need?
60A at each end (not supplied). One close to the start battery on the alternator feed, one close to the auxiliary on the output.

Q: Will it run on a 24V vehicle?
Yes on the input (9–32V), but the output is always 12V. If you need to charge a 24V auxiliary bank, pick the Redarc BCDC2420 instead.

Q: Does it make fan noise?
No. It's fanless and silent. There are no moving parts, which also keeps dust out of the housing.

Q: How long is the warranty?
2 years, direct from Redarc.
