The 31-Pin Male Deutsch-Style Plug with Boot is a high-cavity multi-way electrical connector for quick-disconnect wiring on canopies, service bodies, trays, cabinets, and mining fitouts. It brings 31 individual circuits together in a single plug so a whole loom can be broken or reconnected in one action.

This is the male half. It houses pin contacts (the 0460 family) and mates with the matching 31-Pin Female Deutsch-Style Plug with Boot. The moulded rear boot slides over the wire bundle to relieve strain and improve environmental sealing, which matters on plugs this large where every extra cavity multiplies the vibration and moisture-ingress path.

Contacts are sold separately and crimp onto 18-14 AWG (roughly 0.8 to 2.0 mm²) automotive wire. Cavities that go unused should be sealed with matching SZ16 sealing plugs so the plug stays weather-resistant. The connector body is a Deutsch-style equivalent, mechanically compatible with genuine Deutsch DT-family contacts and cavity plugs, sourced through Autowire.

Pin contacts to suit this plug

Sealing plugs for unused cavities

  • 31 cavities — Break or reconnect a whole loom in one plug
  • SZ16 contacts — Uses genuine Deutsch 0460 pin family
  • 18-14 AWG range — Suits mid-gauge auxiliary and signal wiring
  • Moulded rear boot — Adds strain relief and moisture sealing
  • Vibration resistant — Holds up on off-road, mining, and fleet trucks
  • Cavity-sealable — Unused ways take SZ16 blank plugs

Q: What does 31-cavity mean?
The plug has 31 individual holes (cavities) that each accept one contact and one wire. That lets 31 separate circuits pass through one connector body.

Q: Is this genuine Deutsch?
No. It is a Deutsch-style equivalent supplied through Autowire. The body dimensions and cavity layout are designed to accept genuine Deutsch DT-family SZ16 contacts and cavity plugs, so it mates and seals like the real thing, but the plug body itself is not TE Connectivity-branded.

Q: What does SZ16 mean?
SZ16 is Deutsch's size code for the DT-series contact family that fits 18-14 AWG wire. This plug uses SZ16 cavities, so any SZ16 solid pin contact drops in.

Q: Male or female? How do I tell?
This is the male plug. Its cavities hold pin contacts (the 0460 family), which enter the sockets on the female half. If you are wiring both sides, buy a matching 31-pin female plug and load it with 0462 socket contacts.

Q: Do I need to buy contacts separately?
Yes. The plug body and boot are supplied on their own. Pin contacts are ordered by wire size (14 AWG uses one part number, 18-16 AWG uses another) and crimped onto each wire before insertion.

Q: What if I do not use all 31 cavities?
Seal every unused cavity with a matching SZ16 white sealing plug. An empty cavity is an open path for water and dust straight into the loom.

Q: What is the boot for?
The boot is a moulded rubber cover that slides over the wire bundle at the rear of the plug. It relieves strain on the crimps and seals the entry point, which matters on a 31-way plug where cable movement multiplies across every wire.

Q: What voltage can it handle?
Up to 48V DC across all 31 circuits. The rating is set by the SZ16 contact family and the plug body's insulation, not by the cavity count.

Q: How is it different from a smaller Deutsch-Style boot plug?
The body is longer with more cavity rows. Smaller versions (8-pin, 23-pin) use the same SZ16 contact family and boot geometry but pass fewer circuits. Pick the cavity count from the number of separate circuits the loom needs to break at one point, adding one or two spares for future changes.
